PostSubject: QLR !st Miniature Quilt Swap   Thu Jun 11, 2009 11:15 pm

Okay I would like to organize a mini quilt swap and would like to get a sign up on who would be interested.
This is how it would run.. similiar to one I just did on Quilters Bloggers.
You will be assigned a member to make a mini quilt for we are all getting to know each other very well so at least you will know what to make for the person.
You will mail it to the person you are assigned to make the mini for.. do not tell anyone who you are making the mini for but you can post your progress at anytime.
You may not be getting a mini from the same person it depends on how I draw the names. for eg. I may be making a quilt for golo but golo may be making a quilt for Breezepines.
The mini dimensions cannot exceed 25in square and you can do what ever you like for your mini..if you want to embellish it by all means it is your personality that you are giving to the individual.
If you would like to sign up please just say what city you are in and if you don't mind sending to the international areas or Canada... if you prefer just US state that if you prefer just Canada state that if you prefer Austrailia.. and so on..

I hope we get a good crowd going.. I will leave the sign up till the end of June.. I think this would be a great Summer project so you have until the End of August to have it mailed and into your designated persons hands..
MUST make a label on the back of the mini so that we will know who it came from and you never know it might be a historical collectable.. that is a MUST.. please.. pretty please..

lmao too funny, you managed to pin Golo adn Bonnie with your opening invite "I may be making a quilt for golo but golo may be making a quilt for Breezepines." then you added for good measure "if you prefer Austrailia" so I guess Im signed up then??? lmao lmao

clap I salute you for finding a novel way to sign people up lol! Cant wait till Golo and Breezepines wake up and find they joined the new swap coolsmiley

I am innocent till proven guilty..
Alright there ... Tracy your name is on the board.. Gimpy you are on the board too..
I am also in..
Now I remember when we had our swaps and stuff that we had 30 people join it.. imagine 30 people making a mini.. and at the end of August we post our Mini's as a mini quilt show and who we got if from.. if there are any ideas.. let me know..

Glad we have a good start and I have only had this posted for 5 hours keep the list coming would love to get as many as possible.. just think a mini you can hang on your wall a finished project with the binding and quilting already done.. (hint there Paws binding done) not a UFO in our pile.. we could put this under the lazy quilters UFO pile LOL

so when I get up today there will be another 20 signatures..

Oh thats an idea, we could go through our ufo and orphan block stash's (I dont have orphan blocks though, only one I ever had is now in your quilt Deb LOL) and use them as the base of a mini quilt!!

lmao Now you have tagged Paws, oh thats too funny. lmao

Just think if AnnieOakleaf signs up she may design her own applique mini.. and remember she is now a designer as well with you and Tracy and others.. just imagine if we get our name drawn to get a designer mini.. oh I am just getting so very excited about this..
I see that members have not posted in a while are we able to send out a special message to those that have not posted as a group they may be interested....
Do you know I still have the list of names from QT on my wall..

Alright nice to wake up and see 6 so far.. if we can get six everyday by the end of June that would mean we would need to have new members join..LOL

Hopefully the net has been cast and we will catch a few big fish...bearfoot, mouse?? I hear the scraps are bulging outta the bins knowing that they can become something beautiful
I found a mini pattern in one of my old Fon's and Porter mags and zipped one up in about 6 hours the others day.. just putting on the quilting markings it is a great project to carry around for the summer days..
I am away for a week near the end of June so I can take this project with me to quilt.. if you have never hand quilted what better way then with a mini.. I am also going to make a mini whole cloth quilt to bring as well...

Ok have a couple of questions, is there a minimum size? Does it have to be made of mini blocks? What if you want to do an art type one?

Helen, I'd think that you'd take into account the preferences of the person for whom you're making the quilt. I'll be sure to put in MY preferences that an art-type quilt will be perfectly acceptable!

As to the size? Welllllll, it's not a postcard swap.... :angelic:

Thanks Tracey, you see my mum is interested in joining, she isnt an advanced quilter and was wondering if she got scared could she do some 12" blocks and embellish them etc. She was wondering art type too, she is good at fiber art, thread painting stuff like that :-)
