PostSubject: 2009 HUG Swap!   Mon 24 Aug - 11:48

My stitchery friend and bad influence Jenny (of Shabby Roses BOM and Wonky Houses BOM fame) is co-hosting the 2009 Hug Swap. She and her friend Vicki ('Tozz' of On My Heart BOM and Hats-A-Plenty fame) have provided stitchery patterns and construction patterns for a mug jacket (hug) and a mug mat. What a sweet little gift to give someone, don't you think?

I don't get to play in this swap because of the timing, but I'm hoping to use the mug-hug and mug-rug idea for small holiday gifts (and maybe extras to have on hand for emergencies!). I am imagining using little quilt blocks or a cut-up orphan block that I'll never put into a quilt - mainly because I know how slow I am at stitching/embroidering and I wouldn't be able to make more than one or two before Christmas.

So... now that our Mini Quilt Swap is winding down, what do you think about swapping hugs? hug08

Okay, so obviously y'all don't pick up on it when I try to be subtle (hmmm, wonder why that is???). :peek:

I'd lilke to swap Mug Hugs and Mug Rugs with my friends here at QLR. Maybe with an October 20 mailing target. Really low key (and low expense), like the swap Jenny & Vicki are hosting.

Is anyone else interested in doing this? I have ideas...

:butterfly: Well, if you mean will I come up with a set of guidelines and ideas and will I put everyone's name into a hat and choose partners in an evah-so scientific way and will I be there to cheer you on clap and ooh and aah appropriately over your creations... bowing

then, yes, I'll "take charge".

I won't be the one to nag you if you don't meet your 'obligation' to your swap partner. We're a small and close group. I would expect the disappointment of your friends here would be enough to keep you from not following through on your commitment.

I actually had a list of ideas and guidelines typed up last night, but I had a bit of a technical problem pcangst and lost the post before hitting 'send'. I'll get it put back together a little later today.

woud love to have a mug on a rug made by friends here while I am sipping my tea on line I could have one.. maybe on the next go' round..

excellent idea though love the logo for it

Yeppers, Anita, just one. And did I mention? They don't have to be embroidered!

Though after seeing how many people went ahead and made more than one mini quilt in that swap, I'm thinking that I might try to figure out a way to let people swap up to three times if they want to. I'm not sure how the logistics would work on that, so I wanted to run it by everyone to see if I even need to expend brain power on it (brain power=limited resource).

I wouldn't be surprised if once we make one set, we'll see how easy they are and want to make more!

I have a couple of other things to do before I sit down and come up with a guidelines post, so keep reading and asking questions and making suggestions. Hug

Well, you never know what will happen, betweens... Maybe you'll find yourself with an extra hour that you can use to make a set - I'm sure that if that happens there will be NO problem finding someone to swap with you!! Print/write down the pattern and have it handy, just in case.

We'll leave the light on for you... :flower:

I did their pattern, but plan on doing more with my own design... this one took 2 hours with all the embroidering... they are really simple... I think the words can be done with an ink and the rest could be done in applique....

It's adorable, golo (I tweeted it!)

So, did you do all the stitching by hand? I can't imagine ONLY taking 2 hours - I must really be slow!!!

PostSubject: Re: 2009 HUG Swap!   Wed 26 Aug - 2:26

Okay, so here's what I'm thinking for guidelines:

Deadline to sign up is Monday, August 31.

1. WAIT until you've gotten your swap-ee's name before you start, then check out the Swappers Likes and Dislikes topic to learn more about her.

2. Each swapper makes one Mug-Hug and one Mug-Rug, using the basic pattern (the shapes & construction) shown on Jenny's swap page (Mug-Hug) and Vicki's swap page (Mug-Rug).

You do not have to embroider the design on your items.

It would be nice to have something that was "huggy" - whether an appliqued heart, "love" fabric, angel or something else - on your Mug-Hug and Mug-Rug. Originally I'd thought of using orphan quilt blocks and cutting them up to use. I still like this idea. Maybe I'll cut up one of my old Irish Chain blocks and applique a heart onto it... (I'm sharing ideas here - speak up with your ideas, too!!)

3. Your swap-ee's identity is NOT a secret.

4. (from the original swap rules) You must not send anything else except the Mug-Hug and Mug-Rug! This is very important. Remember, many people cannot afford to add extra items or pay large postage so this way no one feels bad if they cannot add extra items.

5. Do not sign up for this swap if you do not think you can get the items made and posted by October 20th.

Your swap-ee will not be sending a Mug-Hug and Mug-Rug to you, you will be someone else's swap-ee!

See? Only five rules/guidelines and a bonus of a few ideas!

So, about making and swapping multiples... I'd like to say that we can swap up to three Mug-Hugs and Mug-Rugs. I'm a bit fuzzy on the logistics, but if you're interested in doing that (and you can decide after you've made your first set, if there's time), then we'll all try to figure out how that will work, 'k?

Now is the time to speak up, my friends. Stand and be counted! Or listed. Or folded and spindled (ow!).
