Ok, I need some suggestions. I am in the process of making a throw for a cousin. They would like the backing to be made of fleece. Questions are:

1. How well does using fleece as a quilt backing work?
2. Do you quilt the throw the same as you would if you were using a cotton backing?
3. Do you use batting?

And anything other suggestions are very welcome.

No on the batting, hummer... I don't know about long-term wear, but fleece backing is yummy feeling.

Having said that? I will never, ever, EVER machine quilt a fleece-backed quilt again. That silky, soft, yummy stuff does not even remotely 'glide' over the bed of the machine. I was lucky to get huge swirls onto a 45" square quilt.

If you had a long-arm, it would be a totally different situation, though. But on my Bernina it was terrible. No custom work on that baby!!

Gimpy's right.. I use it on lots of my quilts.. everyone loves it.. I have been using one of my quilts every night for about 2 years... its been washed and it is still lovely. I have not had any problem quilting them, but I usually do pretty simple stuff like stitch in the ditch or stipling.... I have a Bernina also ... FB ...not sure why you are having problems with the quilting... It does help to wear gloves when you are doing it... I don't use any batting.... good luck...

I use fleece all the time. Works great! I also use cotton batting. I don't have any problems quilting. I recently started using the teflon sheet and Sharon Shamber's halo. It took a little bit of time to get used to it, but it really works well. I find using the anti-pill fleece is better.
