Whoa, whoa, whoa Nelly - where was this discussed? How did I miss out on this? Do I really have the time (or focus) for another swap? doh (what a silly question!!)

OK, come on ladies...these sound like fun. How hard can it be to make a little (or big) pincushion? Make a couple at the same time and voila...Christmas gifts for that little "tuck in" or the "OMG, she's bringing a friend to the party!" gifts.

Count me in too, Linda!

I was wondering the same things!

Also, since I'll be gone the end of October through most of November, can I still play?

Oh MaryAnn of course you can join in. Pin cushions aren't that hard and don't take very long to make! Do they?

Linda, you're so funny. Of course we want to make your first hosting gig a success! :yahoo:

But really, where is the discussion leading up to getting this together? Have some ideas or guidelines been tossed around in another topic somewhere?

FB,
Someone brought it up on the quilt-a-long ideas for 2010. I said I'd host and started a new thread! So, this is the discussion and we are just getting started! Now you are up to date!
Have any suggestions?
I posted cutoff date of 30 Sept and mail date on or about 31 November. Other then that everything is open for djiscussion! Size, type, style, etc.

Welllll...... not surprisingly, I might have links to share. :angelic:

But for now I'm just checking in before work, so it'll have to be later (probably while I'm sitting in my comfy chair tonite, recovering from a day on my feet!!).

I think we should leave the pattern to the sewer... make a real surprise for everyone...

I'd like to join in as this sounds like fun! I have a question though...are we sending them filled or not filled? Last time I made pin cushions I filled them with sand and they were heavy.

We could probably talk for hours about pin cushion fillers!! I was doing a little on-line research (fooling around - giving my mind a rest. . .) -

Let's see - there's fiberfill, sometimes with a little cloth bag of sand at the bottom to give it weight; ground walnut shells (a pet store item, used for bottom of lizard cages!?); raw wool (lanolin content makes pins slide easily), dry silica (I think that's different than sand?). I read one time about using the silica you can buy to dry flowers with - I don't know if that's a different kind of silica?

So - what do you all think about fillers??

Perhaps to save on bulk and weight with postage people could leave a small openeing for the recipient to fill when they recieve it? Just a thought, postage is getting so expensive now, anything that cuts the price is usually good

I like the idea of the receipent (sp scratch ) filling the pin cushion with their choice of filling. Cuts down on the postage costs and makes it's a smaller item to ship.

I think it would be just fine to leave "to fill or not to fill" up to the sender. It may be that a certain design requires earlier filling? If it works better for the sender to mail before filling, that's fine, too. Then the recipient can fill. I don't think any of us will complain either way. We'll just be happy-happy!

I was on the fence about whether I should squeeze this in, even though I really love swapping with my forum friends. I think one is all I could do now, and I'll feel really bad if others do more.
