Fantastic blocks, Red!!! OMG!!! Those tiny pieces...amazing job!!!! Thumbup bowing

I looked over the book and of course there are no written directions, however, are most of those little pieces appliqued? Did any of you buy the CD with pp? I started making a list of the blocks I like best and want to make first. I also like the quilt pictures of other ways to piece only a few blocks to make several quilt variations. I noticed she has created lines in her sketches where there are only quilting lines in the picture...making it look like you have to change colors.

Thanks, Deb for the words of wisdom on the freezer paper. I can see why that would be the way to go....such tiny pieces. I think I will use 30's since I have more of that than anything!!

I printed directions from the www.dearjane.com site and had them spiral bound along with the book. Many of the original blocks differ from her drawings. I use graph paper to draft the blocks when I find some difference. I mostly piece, my background fabric is a fairly tight muslin which makes it easier. Some people starch their fabric to get the same effect.

In that pink block the tiny diamonds around the center are pieced but the larger ones in the corners are appliqued. Half the fun will be telling how to go about piecing them. There are many tricks to very small pieces, I'll be happy to share. Just use the letter-number when referring to them.

I just have the book too...no CD.

I take the drawing in the book and trace (or measure if just squares) onto paper for pattern making. I 'color' the drawing to show if I want the light or the dark and which pieces.

At first I had a hard time remembering to add 1/4"...but have that figured out now!

some I applique..some I stitch together. Whatever works..and if it's 'fairly' close to the right size in the end...I consider it a success!!

take alook at the last link they have all kinds of DJ's you will be there for hours.!!

B9 and B13 have me hung up because of the fabrics. Should I go on to others or wait till I find something. Ahhh, will go on. Meanwhile I'm trying to piece 6 sofa sized quilts for the cousins. And there is the Star Wars quilt for GS. And am quilting daily on my swap quilts. Ok, B12, here I come. coffeecup

You'll never guess what wonderful thing has happened to me!

A little birdie sent me the Dear Jane book, I was so shocked to open my mail and find it gazing at me. I was so excited, I was so humbled by the gesture and the gift. I was so many things and I am certainly so happy and so totally spoiled! I havent enjoyed my mugs of cinnamon apple tea so much as sipping one with this book, its wonderful. I love being able to actually see the blocks clearly (all I ever had was some B&W grainy photocopies of the quilt blocks) and to be able to see the colours and well, its just wonderful lovehearts Thank you so much little birdie Hug I just had to share my suprise gift good news with you all, Im so excited adn touched!

Betweens I see you have your halloween witchies as your avatar, love that block, its so cool! Thanks for all your links and info, I will be looking through your list bit by bit for sure.

Redmadder I love your idea of printing the hints out and having it bound to compliment the book. I think I would be smart to do that too and I love hte pics of your blocks, they are looking great.

Hmmm I have another big quilt to start next year but maybe I should just start two, both of them would be long term projects and I enjoy that, working on a quilt for a couple of years, its satisfying to me.
