PostSubject: Amani-sewing by African women   Fri Mar 04, 2011 11:30 am

I posted this on CTTQ also.
As you may have noticed I'm definitely "snap happy"! I sent an e-mail to Rosemary at Stitchin' Sisters, designer of the snap happy patterns. I asked her a question about a pattern which she answered, and we also shared a little communication about the work she's done with the Amani project, which provides opportunity for African women. This is a quote from the e-mail I just received from Rosemary:

"I too am overwhelmed by the poverty but have found great comfort and a sense of making a difference through my work at Amani. Even a small purchase on the web site can make a difference. This organization is so well run all the profits go to the women, I have witnessed amazing transformations from hopeless despair to empowered women with a purpose to raise healthy families and to change the cycle of abuse, poverty and ethnic conflict. I designed Snap Happy for them to make but it didn't sell well there due to the difficulty of getting decent tapes etc ,but through the sales here I have been able to buy them a mid arm machine and several other Janome sewing machines. I call the pattern the little bag of happiness,Who knew! I have 2 new patterns coming out next month, I hope you will enjoy them too!"

I was so moved by her response, that I'm posting a little sales pitch here. If you'd like to order snappy patterns:
And this tells about the Amani project as well as having items for sale:

Thats wonderful... its nice to know when you buy something you may be helping others. I belong to Women for Women International and have sponsored five sisters already.. I love these organizations that helps women help themselves....

So you see, imagination needs moodling - long, inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering.
