I bought my backing yesterday. Hobby Lobby has all the Christmas fabric 1/2 off. Went for a white with wild and crazy red and green snowflakes. (I think they are snowflakes?) Wanted something lighter since the front is most red.

My shop is having the annual Quack Friday sale this week, 50-60-70% of dozens of bolts of fabric. I won't be working that day :mockery-017: but I might "set aside" some fabric if I think it'll work for a backing.

I haven't decided if I want a busy backing or something calmer - I'm thinking that I might like to show off the quilting, since I'll be sewing down and decorating the trees at the same time. But then again, by the time I get the quilt put together, I might change my mind.

Yes, Kany must come back for another swap! Speaking of baby quilts, do you remember me talking about the baby quilt for Karen in Honduras? Well, the little "guy" came Monday......a MONTH early! He weighed in at 4lbs. 8ozs. His name is Korbin. Momma and baby are doing just great. And may I add, so is grandma! By now she should be there holding her first grandchild.

I'll post pictures of the quilt later on this weekend. I still need to "tie" it yet. I seen a tortorial (ms) on how to do it by machine! Got to get it finished and take it to church by next Sunday December 4th.

5 Row lay out ... makes it wider.. not sure if I want it longer and do only 4 row lay out...
Kany, your block will go into a pillowcase...

I wondered about making extra blocks so I could frame or make one into a wall hanging, or 3 trees in a row as a wall hanging/framed and make a cushion to go wtih it too - I love these trees?

Golo I like the wider layout, the blocks being rectangular on end create a long visual perspective, the longer layout gets almost out disproptionate if that makes sense, just my NSHO azn

Golo, that's BEAUTIFUL. Oh, I just gotta find time to work on mine next week now.

Golo, you know my memory! Don't remember where I saw it, but I do remember how it was done! Whoo hoo! I will look for it though for you.

To tie a quilt quickly: take the (if you have it) same color thread as your backing fabric in both bobin and top of your machine. Lay your quilt under the machine and a piece of yarn or I use pearl cotton embroidery thread in the place where you plan to tie. Using a zig zag stitch, go back and forth several times OVER the yarn or embroidery threads. Cut off and tie. Then tie your yarn or embroidery thread over that and your done! NO pulling a needle with yarn or thead through a thick piece of fabric anymore.

And according to this tutorial this will hold much better. I'm going to try it. Be a lot quicker.

Hmmmm, Memaw, you mentioned that tutorial and today I get my BHG magazine and guess what is in it? Yep, that same tutorial. Wierd sometimes how that happens isn't it?

Yes... another 5... I found similiar fabric in my stash... because there are so many patterns you don't notice they are different and then I put a piece in that matched mine so it works..

Golo and TxMary, sew glad you both found it. I think it will save a lot of wear and tear on my fingers tying the quilt that way. I'm going to start hopefully by weeks end working on it. I have a purse to finish for a lady and then I just must get these doll clothes finished up for Christmas for Ella. And I wanta work on my X-Mas tree blocks too. I've decided to just machine stitch them on so I can get the quilt finished and hung up for the holidays.

My goal for 2012 is if I start something, I FINISH IT in the same year! LOL
