Ok so being the local yokel here Ive gotta ask - what size are they to be? Any other special requirements? Having never made one I decided to generously don the cloak of the village idiot around here and ask these pressing questions

Oh dear.. sorry about that... how about 8" x8" or so .... a size that if you were to use it would wrap around a handle ...

I've just finished making some for myself, and the 8x8 is a really nice size, works well under a casserole and would be great for wrapping around a handle.

Could you wrap it around the handle of the rolling pin (or another heavy object) for use when hitting husbands around the head?? I dont want to damage my rolling pin, I mean I use that for cooking and all....................

Oh yes, GC, that's exactly how I tested to get just the right size...and it is perfect wrapped around the handle of a cast iron pan..not that I would ever do that. winking

You don't leave fingerprints when you use a hotpad either. coolsmiley

I really don't want Golo to shoot herself but are we putting loops on these? Not sure if what you Northerners winking call a hot pad is what we call a potholder (w/ loop) or a trivet (no loop).

Jill, that's hysterical. We won't say a word. Our lips are....

Ahhh nope I tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, I dont a hot pad, oven mit, whatever you want to call them, not a one! Hot lids and stuff I usually just handle quick and fast LOL and taking pans out of the oven I use a couple of folded tea towels. My hands can handle pretty hot stuff so I can lift hot cookies straight off the trays and once I take a cake out of the oven (using tea towels) I give it a minute or two then give it a shake to loosen it and then tip the hot cake onto my hand before flipping it onto a plate or rack to cool.

Gimpy, you must have asbestos hands! I always use a pot holder, having burnt myself too many times. I sometimes bake in a cast iron skillet, and those things stay HOT for a long time. After 30 minutes out of the over they are still hot for me to pick up without a pot holder.

TxMQ, yes at least this northerner calls a pot holder one with a loop, and hot pad (or trivet) with no loop.

And at this point, I'm just getting loopy thinking about loop/no loop and hot pans/burnt fingers! Shocked azn

Sorry, didn't mean to drive y'all loopy. azn

I used to be like Gimpy with a real high tolerance for heat. I owned a ceramic shop and would pull things out of the kiln while kinda hot. Really desensitized my fingertips. But since I don't do that anymore I am not quite as immune. Very Happy
