Cheesy

I need to get working on the hard copies of another series, couple of years back Golo asked me about doing on with blackbirds, seasonal and holiday blocks. Well, I finally got to sketching up rough pics a couple of days ago. Was watching mama and papa blackbird coming to our verandah to get food from the bandicoot plate to feed their babies, reminded me of Golo's request and so I sat down and did some preliminary sketches. If I can get them drawn up properly it might be of interest to some here to do as another sew along project for next year Very Happy

what kind of halloween design Memaw, like a simple wall hanging, one made up of 3 or 4 blocks? Ideas? I havent seen halloween buttons, can you sent me a pic of some so I can get an idea what they are like then I could work something to feature them perhaps? I was asked to design a wall hanging for a quilt store about 3yrs back, they specifically wanted something to feature all these expensive wooden fruit buttons they had, they wanted it to be something garden themed and with birdies and cats if possible LOL, no big ask huh? They were happy wtih their exclusive pattern, pity I never got the sample back I made LOL

The buttons at Crafts 2000 were of pumpkins, bats, skeletons, skulls, black cats. I know there were more, but my pea sized brain has about shut down for the night!

You ask about size. Well, I was thinking maybe a door hanging size? That would be really cute. I like to keep something hanging on our door all year long. Our storm door is solid glass, so I put a sticky hook on the metal part at the top and it works perfect for hanging things on!

No big hurry on it Gimpy. It was just an idea.

I did a rough sketch, was cleaning the laundry and had an idea, what size is a door hanging? Ive got a bottom row with a pumpkin patch, then 3 tall blocks above that, middle one a haunted house and either side alternating ghosts and black cats. Top row bats and above that a row with the words Halloween. Hmmmm gotta make sure it will feature buttons though, Ill keep thinking Undesided Cheesy

WOW! That sounds good to me Gimpy. More than good infact. You could add buttons anywhere on that. What, maybe 28" ~ 30" long by 20" wide? I'm just guessing here. How stupid would that look? (I'm thinking uneven here.) You wouldn't want it to look whopper jawed or anything like that.

Sounds about right Memaw. Door hangings can be longer but only so wide or they take over the door. Standard doors are 30-32" wide so 24" is probably the max on width. I personally like the 18-20" width, leaves a bit more door "framing" the hanging.

Thanks, I didnt know what the measurements were and hadnt a chance to look them up I'll work on that size. What are your favourite halloween things to put on a door hanger though?

For using buttons and/or charms:
A haunted house can be decorated with pumpkins, bats, ghosts, spiders...all the things you usually find in buttons.

A mad scientist lab table would be different and could use different buttons in his jars of "ingredients". Labels could be embroidered for an added touch.

If not worrying about buttons, I like witchy things; shoes, hats, brooms...You know, the essentials. LOL

Tx, I love your measurments. Like I said, I was only guessing. So thank you so much for helping me out here. I'm heading back to the Dr. Friday and have big plans to go to Wal Mart. I'm hitting the fabric section there to see what holiday goodies they might have on sale.....

I decided to look at their fabrics before I bought at Connecting Threads. ONLY because I know for a fact they carry the very same fabric that a quilt shop I've been too does. Only Wal Marts was $5.00 less! And I haven't found there fabrics to be shabby. They are nice quality.

I just found this when I saw the button/charm thread. I always miss things because I don't always go to the "post since last visit." I would like to have the patterns, really cute, as long as I can work at my own speed. What did you mean by sew along, will we all work on a particular block at the same time, like a block of the month? I can do that.

Norma, click on the "home" button at the top, left hand side of the page. Then look right under the banner on the right hand side and you will see the "Posts since last visit" button. Shows you all the threads that have been posted in since the last time you were on. There are two other options there also.
