I save all the long strips of batting I trim off after quilting and any other batting scraps I have. Whenever I go to Walmart or Hobby Lobby I look for remnants of fleece. I had quite a bit accumulated so this summer I made simple dog beds/pillows in whatever size the fleece remnants dictated and Cassie donated them to the city shelter where she was volunteering this summer. There was about 15 total asst sizes. Saving my scraps for the next round.

Otis had to get in on the act so Cassie was having a pillow fight with him.

What a wonderful idea Mary. I always just toss mine. I'll be happy to keep them and when I have enough, send them your way. Very Happy

I have my friends save them for me too. It takes quite a bit to nicely fill a pillow, especially the large ones, they need extra for the heavy dogs. Took me 2 ? years to gather up enough for these. So you know what, if you were serious, I would take them. But the postage might not make it a good idea. So you could make some for your local shelter. The fleece is so easy because you don't have to worry about hiding the seams, no raveling.

Makes a good community project for 4 H'ers or Scouts too. Adults sew, kids stuff. Very Happy

Cassie said the one with the football fleece (bottom left) ended up in the supervisor's chair because he had a bad back. What a dog. lmao

Ditto!! But, you tell that naughty like-a-niece of mine to cease throwing things at that adorable Otis! I may just need to come down there and straighten her out. Cheesy

Well I guess the supervisor gives a lot of time and back ache to the dogs so maybe easing his pain is a good thing too! Love the cushions, what a great idea, wonderful gift idea too for people looking for something different. So many on here have fur babies or family with them, what wonderful gifts they would make. You sure have been busy helping others this summer Mary Ann, your kindness and care is inspiring hug08

One thing I wanted to share. Now this is just my opinion and you know what most opinions are worth soooooooo. I only put batting in the dog pillows. I made a small one, washed it and dried it. It fluffed up nicely when dry. Knowing how fabric ravels and all the strings tie in big knots, I didn't think fabric would be very nice in a bed. How would you fluff a big tangle of thread choking the life out of your batting? So I don't put in fabric. Just MHO.

Sounds very reasonable to me too TXM. No use making them if they are not comfy .

The dogs seem to love them Mamu. I have to start checking for fleece remnants again so I will have some when I get more batting scraps.

That gives me an idea. We only have one dog bed right now and its first come first serve. They will do anything to get the other one out to take it over. So I have been thinking of what or how to make one. Thanks for the idea.

Mary, do use cotton or polly scraps?? You don't use the regular stuffing?? Need to make some for my fur babies.

One of mine, Oreo, fits in the bed if he curls up. But sometimes he spreads out and is partly out. My husband woke up one morn and it was cold. I was at work and heater was off. Both dogs were curled up together in it and wouldn't get out until after heater was on for a while. They are so spoiled.

Norma, I keep all the scraps of batting from my quilts. My sis and friend keep theirs too. I do not use regular stuffing because the purpose of this project is to keep cost down because I donate them to the shelter. If I was making them for my dogs, I might use regular stuffing. I actually have thought of using my old bed pillows when I replace them (which needs to be soon). I think I will just leave the pillow whole and make a cover for it. That is as easy as it gets. What else are you going to do with an old pillow?

Polska, I totally understand spoiled. Somedays, I wish I was my dogs.

I bought 2 extra thick cotton bath mats for us to use. After DH's stroke, they were a hazard to his walking. Those mats are now Terry Dog's. She loves them. When we bought her a stuffed dog bed, she shredded it, as well as a quilt I put down for her.

Our dachshunds can't have anything because Jasmine shreds everything. Poor Pancho is old and would love a soft cushion but that hag just tears everything up so Pancho has to suffer.
