PostSubject: Snow Globes BOM?   Sat Jan 04, 2014 7:11 pm

Ok I have questions for those of you who wanted me to attempt to draw up a snow globe themed BOM.

1: what size blocks?

2: what size snow globes (will be effected by Q3)

3: easy or hard designs or a design where perhaps you can just take the main part and leave out the background if you want easy or do the whole lot if you want harder or more detailed

4: monthly/seasonally themed or just a variety of them, woodland animals, holidays????

easy like this

or harder like this

I could probally and thats not promising, draw some up that could be done either easy or hard and done as embroidery or applique. For example, say a black halloween cat with a witchy house in the background and a moon, you could do the lot or just do the cat if that makes sense?

I need thoughts and ideas to think over  Undesided

I really think the mix of difficulty would be good. I know it is more work but perhaps more folks would participate if they can make things a bit a easier whereas others might want to challenge themselves.

Theme? Hmm that is harder. I'll think on it a bit but am leaning toward calendar type blocks.

My vote would be for this one all the way.   I'm in too by the way.   And I loved the snowman with the birdhouses!    lovehearts

I am interested, but not certain I am in. IMHO, 12 would be a good number, but winter related would be good for all of them.

I had wondered about 12 perhaps if I can think of them with a couple of variants as well so you can pick and choose which 12 you want? The extras could be cushion covers or dont make them at all. I always find there is one or two blocks that dont zing me when there is a BOM and always think it would be nice to have a couple extra to choose from

In between  washing  and vacuming Ive doodled some ideas as they came to mind, I have bare trees with a snow blanketed ground adn winter moon in the sky with a wolf howling (if I can draw a better wolf  lol! )  You wanna hear the others or do I keep it a surprise?  coffeecup coffeecup

What about the seasons and some holidays and animals mixed in between?

I wanna hear. I like being able to think about which fabrics I can use, etc.

I like having extras too. For instance, I used to think wolves had this "aura". Dangerous but majestic type thing. Then 2 years ago I had a nightmare, out of the blue, had not seen any shows about wolves or anything. Wolves got in the back yard, they grabbed Otis, he couldn't get away, he was screaming in fear and pain. I couldn't save him. I woke up crying and shaking so bad. Couldn't shake the sound of him screaming. Stayed up the rest of that night. Now I am totally freaked out by wolves, can't hardly watch them on TV or anything. We don't even have wolves here. So I don't want a wolf snow globe. I know it is dumb, but I get the same shot of fear every time I see wolves ever since that dream. Can't help it.

Animals would make nice scenes. So would birds. Can picture beautiful birds. Funniest idea I had were fish. They would be in a fish bowl, but not. Just tickled me thinking about it.

Thats ok, I understand, I will do extra blocks so we can swap them out, I guess a dingo one is out of the question too now you have Logan?  lmao lmao lmao lmao lmao

Ok, Im starting to think batiks might suit these blocks, Im thinking Im going to try arty landscapey scenic styles for us (if I can draw them)

So far I have scribbled sketches of

Mt scene with a lake (yes we can have a lake in our snowglobes TxMary, why not!) with deer and racoon

One with a white snow rabbit, bare branches with red berries, some grass and could pop easter eggs into it

springish one with snow capped mt in background and a tree coming into leaf with two chickadees and their nest

a tree in full leaf for summer with a quilt blowing on the line drying, would add flowers etc, perhaps a birdhouse. You could make a teeny quilt and pin it to the line if you wanted!

halloween one with haunted witchy house, gnarled old tree, moon and a black cat

winter one with wolf but will do variant- perhaps one with snowy or barn owls?

autumn one with poplar trees, swirls of wind, one tree half stripped of leaves and bare branches showing, pile of cut wood at the base and perhaps a squirrel

Bare branch with an indigo bunting on it, Ive been wanting to use these birds in applique for years, thinking batik or fossil fern fabrics would have the right colour blues

cabin in the snow woods, smoke from chimney, snowman etc

a maybe one, tree with bear cub in it, mama below, stream and mts in background

xmas - gotta do that one

valentines - gotta do - perhaps red cardinals?

This looks like a lot of fun. I have 3 quilts (well started) on the "promised" list, then just charity quilts, so I am good to go.

I got that one pattern. I'll get the dimensions to you in the next day or two. Just so you have a basis for comparison. In case it helps.

I love the idea of ice skaters.

TMM, it seemed like a natural to me. I'm not sure if it can be done, but bear sleeping in a cave?
