At the risk of showing how dirty my grout in my kitchen was......it's now clean!  As part of the sprucing up the house to sell it....I tried a grout cleaner formula I saw on facebook.  Wow....it works!
Here's proof!

Grout cleaner
7 cups water
1/2 cup baking soda
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup vinegar

Mix all in large bowl....it will bubble at first.  I brushed it on w a toothbrush.....let is sit for a minute....then brushed with flat of the brush....like brushing teeth.  Rinsed w clean water.  When it dried...wow. Worked on color tinted grout ok as well....have a blue/grey grout in my boys BR.....didn't affect the color.

I had tried vinegar, bleach, etc. This one finally worked.

My son's chem teacher recommended salt plus vinegar, rinsed with water. The salt is an abrasive, so not on the surface of the tiles themselves.

TMM- i'll try it in my sun room. The grout there needs something. We are also, actually have been for a while, fixing up the house for sale. It's a lot of work, and DH being OCD doesn't make it any easier. If only he'd kept up with the house over the last 20 years or so.

Oh Missmommy,  he's a man.  They tend to just let thing go.  I'm married to one of those types to a degree.  I'd love to have the basement of this home dry walled and finished, but he says NO.  But let one of his guy friends say to him, "you really should get this basement finished and get a pool table",  he'd break every speed limit going to Lowe's to get what he needed!    I mean at least dry wall the ceilings!  I can paint the block walls white.  And the floors.    BUT, it's got to be "their" idea.....   Knuppel

Memaw, just get some estimates on having the work done and leave them on the table. When he asks, tell him you didn't want to bother him so you are just going to have someone do it to make the space nicer and more user friendly. Bet he gets on it then. Mac always does. He hates to pay others for what he can do himself. Heck, I have even made up estimates and gotten the same results.  Twisted Evil
