I considered cats, too. Also (briefly) birdhouses.

It was hard to keep in the same style as the rest of the applique (and I'm not sure I really did). It was also difficult to keep it simple...but after tracing all of the bits for the basket row it was much easier to go for an uncomplicated design!

Chickens! Do we get to see them soon? I haven't decided about the fence yet, it's not my cup of tea but who knows!

Hmmmm,  birdhouses?   Now there's an idea......  Thanks Tracy.   Like the rest of you, I hadn't even got that far on my thinking.  I'm still appliqueing on that row!

The quilt is simply beautiful.   Thank you Redmadder, TxMary, and Gimpy.    And to everyone else who took a part in this swap.   I'm sure her family will love it.

The fairy wrens I did were originally simple chicken shapes with the comb on the head but I took it off, changed the tails and made them into wrens, I thought the simple triangle kind of shape went in with the rest of the quilt, It was something I spent some time thinking about too, whatever I did needed to match the quilt top, cant wait to see yours. If it makes you feel any better, I had to trace and make two of the applique rows, it was time consuming but not as bad as Id expected

Oh and by the way, on Susan's (Redwork's) quilt I included a sympathy card from QRL and I made a label for the back that listed everyone's name who had contributed to the quilt in what ever way. I used printable fabric and my computer. It was a bit stiff but I had put a hanging sleeve on so I am hopeful it will be okay. I mailed it with a tracking # and will check on it later this week. Postage was higher that way but I feel better being able to track it.

I think that is why I just went with the fence. Wasn't sure about the style.

I actually got mine out this morning before breakfast (confused Mr. W. that I was in the sewing closet that early). It's my project for the day. I just need to add one or two triangles to the sashings (though if I realized how great it would look without the sashing, I woulda skipped it), then I can put the rows together.

Oh... I forgot that I don't have the whole basket row done. But it's mostly there.  Much work to be done today!

Bonnie its beautiful, I love the red and white border with the green binding, just yells 'watermelon' and 'summer' perfect combo, well done! I havent worked on mine because I was leaning away from adding the flying geese sashings, been trying to decide what to do about outer border fabric. I folded my pattern page so I could see the quilt without the sashings and liked it, now I see yours I really like so guess I will leave mine off. that means I can maybe work on it again soon, hmmmmm now what for outer border, do I go the checkerboard or just a pretty print Undesided

love yours, Thumbup clap clap

have fun with your FB, sounds like a nice way to spend a day

one thing made me mad,, I got it all quilted, then the binding and as I layed it out to take a pic, omg there was two not one but two little black marks on white, not red but white squares in each of the two corners, where did it come from, aaaaaaaaaaa must have been oil or something from the machine, so I cleaned the machine all up so it didn't happen a second time and then rushed to walmart uuummm yes two little bee appliques to go right over those little marks, looks awesome,, they fit so good.. yeah it's saved and didn't have to take it completely apart, and it's for me anyway so no one will know aaa only us lol

I cut the sashings before going on our not-retreat-retreat last month - I did quarter-square triangles, not flying geese. At the not-retreat I sewed all the rows together, sewed all the triangles together into sashing strips (except for the two that I didn't cut, which doesn't make sense, since each square makes 4... quilting gremlins...), made the fence replacement row, and got most  of the basket row done.

Yesterday I finished the basket row and started sewing sashings between the rows. I've got maybe half of the top put together, but I haven't taken a picture yet.

SOooo, I guess I'll just have to share my fence replacement row instead Very Happy I'm not sure if the chickens will eventually have legs/feet or not.

Ok, got mine back from my LAQ yesterday, bound it last night.  I love this quilt and the quilting on it is butterflies flying over it.  Reminds me of summer, just like we thought it would.

This was such a fun swap....
