I've taken a break from the stars for a bit. Half are done, but we're shattering heat records here so my sewing time is super limited. Add that to sewing up a summer wardrobe and longer hours/more responsibility at work... Well, that's the way it's shaking out right now.

Theoretically I'm off all next week (though it will be a miracle if I'm not called in) so maybe I can make up a few more.

Oh I hope you dont get called into work, I just looked up your weather, awful, is it humid too? Hope it cools some, I cant handle those kind of temps anymore, thinking cool thoughts in your direction

Our weather has been out of control Thud In the month of June, so many heat-related records were absolutely smashed - not just broken, but serious

smash-a-roonie!

Humidity is in the 30-35% range, which I understand most of the rest of the world would gladly take in a heartbeat. But that high-for-us humidity is making the 'feel' about 10 degrees hotter than it really is.

July's off to a torrid start. Yesterday, when I got in my vehicle after work (4:30-ish), the heat just smacked me in the face - I'm sure that I saw the waves just rolling off the dashboard toward me. It is also possible that I was at that time briefly possessed by the spirit of an ex-sailor who took up truck driving after the logging gig fell through. It's possible...I seem to recall hearing some pretty colourful language bouncing around when I grabbed the steering wheel and felt the top two layers of skin fry off of my hands...

(Yes, dear friends from Arizona and Texas and other places I suppose I should have known better than to grab a black steering wheel that has been in the hot sun all afternoon, but this is one of the many things that They don't teach us poor rubes up here in the <ahem> temperate Pacific Northwet.)

As for my work schedule, today I still have all week off. My boss started hedging when I said, "See you next weekend."  Very Happy

She said, "Welllllll, you know how it goes. Don't make plans to leave town."

I almost said, "Yes, Sheriff!" police

lmao lmao

I used to keep a bottle of water and washcloth in the car. Wet the cloth, wipe down the steering wheel and dashboard. It cools everything off. And make sure that seat has fabric of some kind on it. Leather and naughahyde can sear your bu... backside.

Fiber, sounds like time to invest in windshield screens. They provide a lot of protection for your dash, steering wheel, seat, and hands! That heat can crack a dash. Hope things get better for y'all.

Oh no, called into work and scorched hands channeling foul mouth sailors, my what a time your having of it. Living in the tropics and then the summer heat of 113 in Victoria I always kept an old towel in the car and threw it over the steering wheel. Comes in handy for spills too, I usually always have on in there, might be an easy way to manage the rotten summer you are being hit with. Cant believe

A: You answered the phone :hammer:
B: You have to work on your week off

Why didnt you tell her you had booked to go away with Mr W for 8 days or something? Going away from work and the kitchen to your sewing room counts so it wouldnt be a lie!

Hope you are getting some sewing 'me' time in. Oh and one more thought, with temps like that you could use a travel mug and start making sun tea in the car. By the time you get out of work it should be brewed just right, or you could take the meat outta the freezer and thaw it in the car seeing as you dont like using the microwave for it lmao

My coworker would leave a granny smith apple in a sandwich bag in the car. By the end of our Arizona scorchers it would be perfect for her snack before driving an hour to get home.

Fiber....leave a small towel in the car to drape over the steering wheel when you park...helps a bit with the ouch! Learned to do that as a 16 year old when I drove a 1956 Chevy with a metal steering wheel. (wish I had that car now!....it was totally NOT cool in 1974!)

Well Sewn, we are known for a shockingly slow postal system here in Regional Queensland....I have had something take 4 weeks to come from a place 5 hours drive away.
