Considering that I am almost a novice at machine applique, I am rather pleased with the results.

Memaw, if you don't think of something you like, don't pressure yourself. If I am short a row, I'll alternate a couple of interesting stars.

Yes, Redmadder made a lovely row of mountain peaks that are log cabins and part cabins on point.  I am making mine PPed so I am able to conveniently reduce the size to exactly 30" (fin) without nasty measuring.

BTW, Just on a whim, I looked in Quilter's Cache and found 4 suitable stars which are 7" blocks.

When I took my 2 finished rows to my guild meeting, it seemed that most of the guild had not heard of row by rows and those that had were afraid that if they did one they would be swapping rows, rather than designs. They were concerned that they would be getting inferior fabric and piecing in a swap, so they are now greatly encouraged. I have been thinking of presenting a Spring row by row, with lots of options for flowers and birds.

I think they vary Linda, mine is about 11" tall, just the way it turned out for me to fit in the design to a reasonable scale.

I am done with the sewing on Redmadder's delightful mountains, but I still need to remove the PPing papers and press it.  DH and I are very pleased with how it turned out.

I am thinking DH will probably ask for a separate hanging of this for his cave.

MN, I like yours better than mine. And what if I started with my very dark row and progressed to lighter and lighter toward the top. As if the sun were coming up over a mountain range. Hmmmm.

I Started mine at 11" per diagonal log cabin unit, then squished it down to 10" finished size, which is easy to do with a quilt program, but gives weird measures for cutting, so I just went to the next reasonable size logs up and trimmed down to make a 30" wide unit.  Since I was PPing, the exact size of the cut pieces was not terribly important.

Should I mail directions? Its very hard for me to tell you how I do this, since things gets trimmed to their proper size. 2 inch centers, and 1 3/8 inch strips. Except I always made the last strips wider in case I wobble, then I trim the blocks to 7 1/2.

I made the quarter log cabins with the same centers and strips, adding dark strips for the bottom of the row and a square cut diagonally for the sky.

Does this make sense? I'm a very free spirit when piecing, except I work with exacting geometrics.
