PostSubject: Mini Quilt swap for Christmas   Fri May 22, 2015 10:59 am

Itty bitty blocks...be creative! make it your own

I know you all are busy with other projects on the go but would like to know how you felt doing a mini quilt swap. Blocks are no larger than 6in and the quilt itself must be under 25in all around. I was hoping that if we have a sign up that we would keep it open till end of June.
We start our mini quilts July1 and have until November 30 to have them mailed out. I would like to do a little twist on this.
You will know who your partner is so that you can correspond and get to know each other a little better privately. you will not tell anyone else on the board who your partner is, with your knowledge of your partner you will be able to give her the mini quilt she likes and any other trinkets. I think it is just as thrilling to know who your partner is.  This will also help in knowing the thoughts that went into making your mini... a little mini history if you will, how did you decide on the pattern the technique and the finishing
Keep in touch on your progress with the group your partner will know it is for her.
Definition: a miniature quilt is a scaled down version of a larger quilt. In other words, all
elements of a miniature quilt (blocks, borders, sashing, etc.) should be reduced in size to
a proportion that matches the size of the quilt.

Excellent description by Gimpy thanks

Then I found this "The American Quilter’s Society defines mini quilts as no larger than 24” in both width and length, with all aspects of the quilt reduced in scale."

Betweens gave these guidelines too " Blocks are no larger than 6in and the quilt itself must be under 25in all around."

It seems that we should aim to create a mini quilt about 24-25" square so everyone will get a similar size when swapping.

There are lots of eye candy ideas to be seen HERE

I just the first one, 6th row down, delectable mountains with the spectacle wearing doggie  hahaha

Oh and if you want I can host this one.

I can join this one, i was only thinking about mini quilts recently and yesterday dug out a civil war mini pattern Anita gave me as a SS gift one year, its been calling to me, a little pinwheel pieced one I'm thinking of doing it all by hand. Xmas swap, SS has also been starting to wander into my thoughts so it seems like your timing is great Deb Very Happy

How long until we commit? I'd like to  but won't commit until some other projects are completed.

I may sit this one out and then jump into something  for spring as this winter i will be hopefully working 3 days a week until end of February  when i retire.   But gosh this sounds fun.

That is great Texasmusicmom remember this is between you and your partner as you get to know her you will get to know what her likes and dislikes are...remember it is only between you 2 and in the end you both can tell your secret.

I don`t want to pressure anyone only do this if you can, but we don`t have to sign up till the end of June. Then I will pick the partner`s by the end of the week. You then have until Nov 30 to mail it out this way it is in time for Christmas and just misses the Christmas rush mail. So there is ample time.

If it is mini patterns I know kathleen Tracy has a few free patterns on her site.

How do you define minis? Could they be toppers too? Table tunners? Or just small square quilts? Just wanna know how broad this is interpreted.
