No problem Sewn. The last thing we want is for you to feel pressured.

Cassie would like to join this swap. She feels she will have more time with school being over.

Memaw too, this will be fun. sewing2 postie

Dont forget, there are many styles of mini quilts, there are traditional pieced ones, crazy quilts, applique, art quilts, combinations of embroidery, applique, pieceing and art. You can go wild on a mini!

I updated the list of names on the first page, first post for Betweens, can everyone check your name is on there and if its missing let us know so it can be added, thanks

We have 14 members signed up already!! that is fabulous! thanks for participating...

Memaw that is great! I am so glad that you are so excited and I know it will be a wonderful mini....please remember that you don`t know who your partner is yet I would wait till after the names are picked.

I know this is exciting and we all are anxious to get started but read the directions again you want to gear this towards your partners likes and dislikes...this is to be a thoughtful gift in getting and perceiving how you and your partner see each other as a quilter, this is your special gift to them. This I think is more of a challenge then mystery gift, you have to think more on what they prefer, and make it with your talents, it may be something you have not done before as a technique. Know them a little, course you all correspond every day about your everyday events so you are way ahead of me. That Today forum is full of information on your partner, maybe they love cardinals, maybe they love the heat, gardening, pieced quilts, applique quilts, modern quilts...take your time and just see how many sign up and cross your fingers you get who you would like to be your partner the one you know the best. I would like it if I didn`t know them well at all, this will call for a clean palette, like Christmas I had Karny and I had no idea about her the idea though is you will be almost pen pals but don`t tell us who you have!!!

Does anyone else have any ideas of what they would like to do? I am sure you will be spinning with creative ways to make a mini. This is the time to try a new technique or use a favorite that would delight your partner.

please read the statement on page 5 top.. I am only posting this so that it goes to the most recent posts, I had edited it and it will not show. I think people need to understand a little more about the swap.

Memaw, just wondering about your pattern, if you dont know who your swap partner will be, how can you choose a pattern that is especially for that person?

Dont forget everyone, Betweens has explained it well, remember, once you get your swap partner's name you need to talk to them, work out what they would personally like and make a mini that is just for them. This swap is really about getting to know someone on the forum, better. We cant just make any generic mini quilt, we need to think hard and create one that is especially for our partner. Our mini needs to be tailored to our partner, their likes and what makes them, well, them. It could be that your partner might tell you that they would really love to have a xmas mini or a halloween themed one for example. Your partner might like a total surprise, they might have a room that needs a mini and could tell you what colour scheme or theme would suit. They might have always secretly wanted a black and yellow mini, or a purple and green one, a secret desire for something with stars or butterflies - who knows. They might even want something that represents you, yourself to always remind them of who made their mini quilt. Who knows, the fun will be chatting with your partner and finding out!

Ultimately, that's the whole aim of this swap, to find out more about the person who is your partner, to get to know your partner better and then you have the fun of coming up with the perfect design, just for them.

If you have any questions or arent sure about anything, just ask, its fun working through things together Very Happy

Very well put Gimpy...I would like to add the fun part too is that you both know you are each other`s partner we don`t you can scheme on how you can communicate incognito and give wee hints on who you may or may not have...secrets 2 sisters would have together whispering in each others ear and giggling all the way. Lets get back to being 13 and having your best friend and you playing little pranks on the rest of us, back each other up you never know you might be the best of friends after this.

Even a pattern can be personalized for a certain person. Colors, borders, etc. So while part of the fun is to get to know someone, it also has to be fun and doable for the sender. For instance, my swap partner may be someone who loves paper piecing, but I hate doing it and so will not do it because I won't feel like it is my best work. So maybe Memaw has found something she will be confident in doing a good job on and will customize it when she learns more about her swap partner.

I am so pleased so many are joining up. This will be an awesome swap I think. Thanks Deb for putting it together. lovehearts

Oh I totally agree TxMary! patterns are only guides for the true creator I have adjusted patterns to suit my needs in many quilts. I am not limiting anyone one what they chose just to be sure to follow the guidelines

I thought about this when we were saying something about ourselves in the 2 things you don`t know. We have know each other a long time so what better way to step it up a notch.

Well said TxMary, I alter patterns all the time, I wouldnt attempt paper piecing either and one of my SS gifts I altered the bulk of an applique pattern and did it in watercolour pencil! Im just curious about Memaws pattern, you know all about curiosity and cats lol!
