Good news! I'm going to be working 9 out of the next 10 days (and the one I have "off" is filled with other out-of-the-house responsibilities) soooooo....

That means I won't have as much time to whine about HOW LONG I have to wait until names are drawn!!
lmao  lmao  lmao

In other semi-related news, who has a Pinterest board (or, in my case, TEN of 'em...)??? Sharing what you pin would be an amazing way for the person who gets your name in the swap to see what kind of quilts interest you...

sorry you cant join this time Sewn, we will make sure there are other swaps you can join. Let us know when you are free and we will set something up so you can play too hug08

Mouse, a mini quilt can be easy to do, it doesnt have to be intricate piecing, it could be applique or artistic. Have a look through here, you will see some nice simple ones that are very cute

I know how you feel sewn, I have this as my last swap of the year after that I am not joining any for a while. I had joined 2 mini swaps plus the block swap here and really had to pressure myself to get everything done by the deadline...surprisingly I did!! as everyone else knows me here I am usually late.
I have a few projects I need to finish for next march since I will be guest speaker i want to have a few projects finished.
Fibber babble thank Goodness you are going to be busy I worried I would open this thread and I would get a note every day saying where is my partner, I need my partner, I want to start now, give me my partner... Cheesy
Joking aside I hope you gave yourself a little time to still visit

Thanks for posting the simple mini quilts link, Gimpy. I've bookmarked it and will look at them later, but seems to be something for everyone on that site.

Just so you all know for a helpful hint you can use a part of a pattern as well especially for applique maybe only have 2 borders and such be creative once you know your `sister`for a bit you will change your mind again about what you want to do! You can mix your mini patterns like I do I end up starting with one pattern and mixing it with another many times.

Remember your circumference on how big it is allowed to be I use some of my mini`s as coffee table mat, but remember the size you make, I would suggest googling mini quilt images and see what they are. Also remember it is what you are going to make for your special someone.

Hey, Gimpy Cat, I just clicked on the mini quilts link you shared. One of them (well, actually two) reminds me of a toilet paper roll.

Do you roll over or under?

lmao lmao lmao

I dont think mug rugs and placemats count but I know many people use mini quilts for table toppers, display them on the back of chairs etc. I found this on a competition guidelines site from Co

...Betweens gave these guidelines too " Blocks are no larger than 6in and the quilt itself must be under 25in all around."

Okay, I want more here. coolsmiley

I agree that mug rugs and placemats are their own thing, and I agree that 25" is plenty big. Buuuuuut...

If my swap partner or I (will we be paired up, or will I have TxM and she have Memaw and so on?) want a 15x18" quilt or a <gasp!> Thud 6" quilt, that could/should/would qualify, right?

I think the really really important part of the 'definition' of a mini is that it is a scaled down version of a larger quilt. So, while a placemat may be 15x18" and a mug rug 6", the way these items are usually built is not the same a making a quilt with blocks and borders and all.

Does that make sense?

(PS, don't panic if you are chosen to make a quilt for me. I will NOT ask for a 6" quilt!)

Can you imagine what might happen if FB and I were paired? The result could be a full quilt you'd need a magnifying glass to see. winking

Okay lets see what or who we are going to get for our swap first. I think between the 2 sisters that are going to swap with each other and get to know each other are going to have to decide for each other what is acceptable. It should still be a mini no Larger than 25 inches. I have seen mini quilts done as a scenic landscape put into a mini picture frame. I cannot put a minimum size on it because it would depend on how much detail has gone into the piece itself.

YOU and your PARTNER are going to have to play together nicely and decide on these minor details. FB I would be glad to get you cause I love a challenge and the smaller piecing the better the challenge.

The ACTUAL Challenge here is to get to know your partner, see how close you can get to really giving her a thoughtful cherished gift, something you would give your best friend, your mother, your sister. This is your chance to pay it forward in a mater of speaking.

The loose guidelines are at the beginning of the thread, now you and your partner will have to grow together to decide on what you would like to do for her that is your challenge.

Example: I love dogs, maybe I will get a mini paper pieced quilt with dog bones on it or appliqued chihuahua`s. I love old quilts, maybe I will get a mini applique with red and green applique flowers and the swag border. I know these are over the top but get the idea?

In what I see of Mamu, she does lots of feathered star quilts, how bout one that could match, she does lots of machine quilting, never has time to hand quilt (okay I am only imagining) maybe she wants a hand quilted quilt to cherish.

These are just ideas, ponder over them give some other examples this is a fun get to know your sister time summer is the best time because we are doing so much activities, write each other a daily journal of events or dreams, or wish lists...even that could make anyone smile.

Hmmmm scaled down huh? So if you scale down a "lasagna" quilt (made with a jelly roll) do you get a "macaroni and cheese" quilt ?

Is a scaled down "shoo fly" a "shoo gnat"?

Is a "hole in the barn door" a "crack in the shed door"?

How about a 'friendship star'? An "aquaintance sparkle"?

lmao lmao lmao lmao

Got any others?
