Well, I made the dreaded trip to the post office. The clerk told me it would cost $2.54 for each envelope in the States and a minimum of $5 each for the two to Australia and one to Canada. I asked why and she said because it was a parcel and that it wouldn't drop through the slot without being pushed. I had put them in a white business size envelope. I told her that this was part of an exchange and that I didn't recall any others costing that much to which she replied that they had just recently received training and that if others were sent for less money it was because their post offices didn't know what they were doing. At first I told her to go ahead, but then changed my mind. It would have cost me a minimum of $55 to mail them all and I can't afford that. I'm going to put one in a different envelope and see what it would cost and if it's more reasonable I'll send them all like that.

Jill, at $55 is there a chance to use an "untrained" PO? a trip to another location might be worth the money. It sure didn't cost me that much, mine were in card envelopes and went thru the slot. Just fold them as few times as possible, and hammer them down to fit. That's too much postage.

That is too much! Our were less than half that and one was a large envelope with other stuff in it. The others were in card size envelopes and she just handed us a book of stamps and DH worked on that.  Go to a different  post office or even check it out online. They usually give you a choice of different rates per package. I bet she chose the most expensive choice. That is just outrageous!

Jill, I had the same experience with the two I mailed to Australia. It was a flat 5 X 9 envelope and they insisted it was a package. I mailed the USA's in a business envelope and paid 21 cents more than the letter rate.

Shocked Jill, that is so ridiculous! Don't think that postal worker knew what they were talking about. Mine weren't anywhere near that expensive to mail. Ditto what the others said about maybe trying another post office.

Just asked DH/ Each of the envelopes which were card size were 71 cents. total with one large envelope was around $25. We shipped the cheapest option, which I am sure they were NOT quo4pting you.

Mine was only 70 cents to send out in the USA girlfriend.    I'd ask to talk to the "Supervisor" and then see what she says.   Bet she changes her story then.  She probably has a kid she needs to put through college this year! lmao

Anita I just received your cardinal block today, love it, thank you so much. If its any help to Jill, the postage on Anita's was $1.74 to get to me. Sounds like Jill truly has whack job post office, Id be finding a new one, I know its a nuisance to drive further but the reduction in stress and cost saviings would have to make it better. Perhaps you can find one near a quilt store?

I'm going to take the ones for the States to our local superstore and see what happens. I bought 9x12 envelopes yesterday and still need to get them addressed. I'm going to try just one first to see what it will cost. Unfortunately, our main post office is the only place I can go to send the ones out of the States. The only other post office would be 20+ miles, so I'll try again and see what happens.

Jill I like the other gals paid about 71 cents for US and less then $2 for oversea. I don't think that postal worker knew what they were doing!

I think 20 miles on a pretty day, some time alone perhaps, the thought of a nice coffee somewhere, perhaps a nursery to be explored in the area, less stress and cheaper mail, its not that far. I drive 27miles each way to do the grocery shopping, there must be something fun to explore while over there Thumbup coolsmiley

Sewn I was thinking the same thing when MIL visited the first time, that I'd be able to get out by myself. Oh no, it only meant that I had one more to help get in/out of the car, entertain, and listen to the chatter. And Memaw, I'll be the one with the stiff drink.

Wait till he's in the bathroom, grab your purse and run. Leave a note that says," Needed a break. Gone shopping, back later".

I am totally serious.
