PostSubject: Featherweight Purchase! I'm SEW excited!   Sun 31 Jan - 16:59

It's still my birthday month for at least another 10 hours and I couldn't resist!

I bought a 1955 Featherweight, I'm SEW excited!!!

She's from Lockhart Texas! I know she's got to be strong!

Pictures to follow, it's being shipped!  Here's the info though!!!!!!

This is a 1955 Singer Featherweight Serial # AM 163268. It has a Birth Date of 10 Jun 1955.
It has just completed a full service and is now ready to become your favorite portable sewing machine.
All settings and clearances have been checked and set to Singer Standards as published in the Singer Featherweight 221 Service Manual. This machine will perform as Singer intended.
This Singer machine runs strong, smooth, and sews a great stitch forward and backward.
Completely oiled and lubed, it comes fitted with a new drive belt, a new felt liner in the lower drip tray, and a new light bulb.
The motor was removed, cleaned and inspected, the contact brushes were checked to ensure a long service life.
The hook assembly was removed, taken apart and cleaned. The light assembly was removed cleaned, and checked for damage. The upper thread tension unit was cleaned and set. The foot control was cleaned and the pull rod set as needed for good speed control.
Besides a Owners Manual, it comes with the attachments pictured, two screwdrivers, a cleaning brush, five bobbins, and we also include a cleaning cloth.
The machine appears almost new with the exception of the remains of a store label that I tried to show in photo # 9.
The case is in good shape it is sturdy and comes with a key.

She hasn't arrived yet, but I think I'll name her "Tracie" in memory of my dear friend.

Sorry the pictures were taken on the computer....I'll take better ones when she arrives!

For 2 hours I sat here looking at her trying decide if I wanted to place a bid on her, then in the final seconds there was a bidding war going on as I continued to watch, then I finally decided to submit my only bid in the last "second"....the words bidding ended came up and I thought, oh well it wasn't meant to be..... then....... I received a text I won!!!!! It was totally meant to be!!!!!! I'm sure there are some very unhappy people out there that were bidding on this machine, but "Tracie" was meant for me!

Thanks Anita!

I was looking for a machine that was made in my birth year of 1959 but after reading more about the machines, production didn't happen during 1959, but this machine came up and I figured that 1955 was close enough!

Nice Jill! My Mom has the Singer I learned to sew on as well, one day it'll be passed down to me, it hasn't been used since I left home some 40 years ago!
Just sitting in the cabinet!
She used a Kenmore.

My Mom has my Grandmothers Treadle also that my Mom never used, at some point I look forward to sewing with that machine as well.

Sadly both machines have gone unused, my Mom hasn't ever been interested in using them, but not interested in passing them to me either to use all these years, sad, but they're hers to do with what she wishes.

I hope you really enjoy it.  Most of my guild sisters are happy with theirs.  I was not, but sold it easily the day I decided to do so.

Thanks QMN, TMM and TXM.

I'm very excited!  I'm tracking "Tracie's" arrival!

Gimpy I thought that naming her after Tracie was meant to be!  I'm looking forward to many hours of sewing with her, especially outside during the summer on the deck.  I think it'll be fun to take "Tracie" with me on my travels here and there, maybe to a friend's house to sew and chat, and quite possibly to a Retreat at some point!  I'd love to join up with Mamu's Retreat some day.

It sounds like Tracie is going to have a full life and I really like that she will always be there when you are sewing and creating and having fun. It really is the right name for her, you will love her for sure lovehearts
