PostSubject: Easter row by row swap   Tue Feb 16, 2016 5:00 pm

Hi, is anyone interested in doing a row by row pattern swap with an Easter theme? You wont have time to complete your quilt top by easter but between now and then we will have fun designing our rows and making the sample of the row you create. It would work the same way the winter row by row swap/sew along was done that is just finishing up, you can read about it and if you scroll through, find pics of some of the designs HERE

Ok, so what we are planning is that each person will design a row for a quilt, doesnt matter how high it is as long as its 30 1/2" long. It can be applique, pieced, I guess even embroidered (?). Then we will share the designs with the others who have joined in and each person will make their own rows for their own quilt. Its going to mean gluing or taping some paper together to get the length depending what style you choose to use when designing your row and then we will have to post the pattern for our rows to each other, others like Marynel who use software I guess would be able to email their design?

Once you have designed your row, you will need to make it and photograph it, post the photo in the topic so everyone can see your row and have fun seeing the designs being created. Its not hard, grab a pencil, draw some eastery things, trace stuff out of colouring books or online sources if you need some help to get your shapes how you want it, piece a row, just have fun, get creative and help design our very own quilt!  Why not design your own row, you dont need to be a graphic artist to participate, you just need some Easter ideas and be willing to have some fun.

If not many join you may want to design some extra rows for yourself or to share. Rows could feature chicks/hens, eggs, bunny's, baskets, flowers, combinations - lots of things.  I think its fun to do our own version of the row by row thing the quilt stores are  doing where each store designs a row to be collected by customers.

Due to time constraints the sign up to join will end on Monday the 22nd Feb, thats next Monday. Patterns/designs will need to arrive at their destination by March 23rd, right before Easter - that way, if you can, we can work on creating our easter rows during the easter break Very Happy
Dont forget you need to allow 10 days for snail mail to reach Australia/USA so those patterns need to be posted no later than March 12th.

As of today you have 6 days to make up your mind to you (go on, you know  you want to!!) then you will have 3 weeks to create a design. By joining you are promising to get your pattern made and posted according to the dates. Come on, join me, its just some drawing, one row, only 30" long, its not hard, its fun Very Happy

Who wants to join?

Sounds like an interesting idea, but I generally don't 'do' Easter, and I don't know what I would do with an Easter quilt.

Easter here is celebrated in a way I never heard of until I got here. Parents and kids meet at the Post Office square. The smaller kids are then taken by fire engine to a ranch where the fire department has set up a number of egg hunts, for different age groups. The fire engine leads the parade of cars. While people are chatting and waiting their group's turn, many kids have their faces painted by our local clown.

Hm. Maybe I could design a fire engine carrying the Easter bunny, throwing out eggs, A la Mardi Gras necklaces.

Simple is fine, its just some fun, if we dont get many you could always cut your rows in half then use them to make striped runners or cushion covers!

Ok so we have

Gimpy

I keep thinking about bunnies and eggs, tulips and baskets, fun Very Happy

I think simple showcases things really well, mine will be simple too, applique of course. So, do we tell what we are thinking of doing?

This is the easter row I drew up, seeing as there are only 3 of swapping row patterns, do you want to do two each of just leave it one? I had another one in mind, how about I just send it along anyway?  I want to get a chance to at least get my row fused. So this one is the usual 30 1/2" long and 8-9" tall.

17 days till they need to be in the mail postie east

2 each = 6 rows, that would be a nice size for a wall hanging. Hmmmmmmmm, so many ideas, tulips and baskets, eggies and more bunnies, flowers and choc bunnies, chicks and hens..............

Your winter row is awesome, dont see why easter would be any different, mine are very basic, one egg shape repeated along the row and a chick shape, cant get any more basic than that, the worded one too the most time to try and get the letters right, size, distance apart and fitting but I always find letters are a bother. Personally, I cant wait to see your row hug08
