PostSubject: The Splendid Sampler   Tue May 17, 2016 10:13 am

I just discovered this. A pattern is posted every 3 to 4 days. There will be 100 blocks total. Along the lines of the 365 Challenge. These are 6" blocks and they are on block #27. Some cute sewing themed blocks that would make a nice wall hanging.

Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere. I looked but did not find it.

I was thinking like you, watch it and save blocks I like. I love all the pictures they have posted. I enjoy seeing all the colorways people have used.

I might be just crazy enough to do it, or at least parts. I really like these blocks, so far.

The Splendid Sampler is a wonderful group and quilt. Many of the blocks are quite challenging, but absolute beginners are doing this and they have been successful. Many of the comments are that people are learning many new techniques--and also new techniques for a particular style, such as different ways to make hexagons, different ways of doing paper piecing, etc. There is a little something for everybody--easy piecing, paper piecing, english paper piecing, embroidery, etc. You can go to the TheSplendidSampler.com site, pull up a block, scroll down to the bottom, and see how people have interpreted the blocks. Some people are amazingly creative. There is also a very active Splendid Sampler forum on Facebook.

ah yes--I am doing the Splendid Sampler, but I have only 6 blocks done. I am in the process of completing a huge banner for our church that needs to be done by mid-September, and there is my job and other responsibilities getting in the way. I have been collecting the pdf's for the 365 challenge, but I won't be able to get to that until probably after I retire in a year or so.

Nuffsaid, that reminds me of an elderly friend of my grandmother's. When I ran into her, I said "Mom is planning to come and see you when she has a free day". The friend said, "The day your mother has a free day will be the busiest day in the world, with all the things she is going to do that day." I suspect your retirement may be like that.

My guild has a BOM project. I am saving the patterns for when I am well enough to do them, but AFTER the things I have promised to do.
