Yes, what Linda said. The blocks will be published on the first of each month, starting in February. One block each month, with the last being offered on Nov. 1.

I will (or one of us will) post the link to the pattern as it's available.

There's just a week until the first applique pattern is available. Does everyone have at least their first background cut?

Jill... How's your schedule/energy look? Are you going to join us?

Our old friend Quilton (Bev) wrote a blog post about how she's prepped for Gnome for the Holidays. Some nice tips here... I'm thinking the pool noodle will be on my shopping list this weekend!

I am going to use a pants hanger (the kind with clips) to hold my blocks. I can hang them on the back of the doorknob or on the edge of a shelf in the fabric closet. If pool noodles aren't out yet and y'all want something similar, go to the hardware store and get the foam that wraps around pipes. I think it is sold by the foot so you can get a little or a lot. Very Happy

I have one of these for storing and carrying my quilt blocks, shemoos made it for me one year, here are instructions to make your own

Portable quilt block storage and carrier

I also found this comment,

Quilt Block Carriers / Keepers:
If you use a Pringles can for a roll up carrier you can store other supplies inside.

If you used a pringles or postage tube container you could convert the first pattern and wrap it in fabric with the ribbon ties, just leave the ends so they can be opened, good spot to put rulers if you used a long enough postage tube!!

Backgrounds are cut and I just ordered my fabric. I didn't want to but just didn't like much of anything in my stash and didn't have to many blenders left. I'm going with mostly blenders, I love blender! Read Bev's blog and downloaded the block holder. I did just buy a 1" x 48" long dowel to make a foot petal holder and don't need it all so I may use a piece of that to roll my block. May be to heavy but I will try it.

                                          I'm ready to go!

Thanks, Helen for sharing the link to the block holder. This looks do-able, though (since you know ME) with a couple of modifications. I *do* have access to pool noodles year-round and I could get more than one holder from one noodle. Then I could use pins rather than a glue gun... Oh, you know, lots of little tweaks.

Will I actually do it?

I'm going to give it a 7 on the Probability Scale (that's something new I just made up... there might be something profound emerging from the back of my brain).

Hmmm just realized I need to pull fabric suitable for faces. I forgot that! Shocked

Here's my first block. It's fused but not appliqued. I am working strictly from my applique scraps (as much as I can). Some fabrics may not have been my first choice but I think it turned out pretty good. Very Happy

Way to go, TxM! Are you going to sew them down as you go, or wait until you have them all done?

Just yesterday I was having a conversation about whether or not to pre-wash. For me, if I don't expect to wash the quilt often or at all (like a wall hanging) I don't pre-wash. Also, since I always sew down my appliqué, getting the sizing out of the background isn't an issue.

BUT I don't starch/Best Press any of the fabrics for wall hangings. Since it won't be washed, I don't want those added chemicals to be on the fabrics, just in case.

Clear as mud?

I am going to sew them down as I go. I think if I were to leave them I would never get the quilt finished at the end. It would be daunting to have that much applique staring me in the face.

FB I prewash everything except precuts because my hands turn beet red, dry out and then peel if I handle unwashed fabric to much. You should see my hands after a trip to a quilt shop! It has been painful so everything I can wash gets washed!

I don't starch or Best Press anything but I do use a 50/50 mix of water and vodka with a couple of drops of scent if something needs a little more stiffness. I think it give you the same stiffness as Best Press just a lot cheaper!

My fabric is all washed and the pattern printed. I hope to get the block done this weekend!

That makes perfect sense. I tend not to think about allergies because I'm a tough old broad bird. coolsmiley

My pattern is printed aaaannndd.... I brought home a pool noodle last night! I might actually make one of those block holder things!

Oh my goodness, Quilton is at it again!  She's gone to the trouble of writing a step-by-step of how she prepares and fuses this month's Gnome block - go have a look at her latest blog post HERE

THIS is what jumped out at me:

Press a piece of fusible interfacing behind any light coloured fabric....the nose, the white beard.....before you use the fusible web.  It helps the background fabric from showing through.

I've used fusible interfacing behind my light colors for several years....I forget where I learned it. The only shadowing I have is on a couple of my stars, the lighter ones, I forgot to back them. They are now appliqued down and are not being changed!
