Well, Mary Ann, since that's not news to you... I'm thinking about the things that I do that are automatic, but other people might not know about them.

The biggest thing for me is that I do what I've heard is called "windowpaning". I cut the innards out of the larger shapes, leaving about one-quarter inch all around. That keeps the applique from being as stiff, especially when there are a lot of layers on top of one another.

I'll try to come up with a picture this evening.

Fabric washed, block printed, parts traced on to fusible and fabrics for block 1 selected. I hope to get time tomorrow to get started!

FB I learned that a long time ago from some ladies in a quilt group I was in. I've used it once or twice but always go back to using the whole piece.

It makes the pieces more flexible to not have fusible totally lining them. You sure end up with a lot of fusible scraps though....there's a lot of "oh this would be good for a leaf".......I am pretty sure I could cover my house in fusible leaves right now lmao lmao lmao

Okay, I got sidetracked (surprise!). Here are the pics. And yes, I do have enough for a forest of leaves, too. lmao But there are stars and lights and noses and ornaments yet to be done for this project...

Yeah, right. Embarassed

Choosing fabrics, trees cut out with a little bit outside the drawn line and the innards cut out, leaving about 1/4" inside the line.

"Frame" ironed onto the back of the fabric

Tree cut out on the drawn line

Yeah, I got my stars out of the tree innards and the noses out of the tummy innards so that doesn't help use anything up!

February bring Mr. W.'s birthday on the 12th and our 27th wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day. I decided to go with a bit of a theme for this month's gnomes.

I did NOT back the hearts with interfacing, and I regret that. It took me so long to find just the right pink that I just blew through that final step.

I'll stitch them down and ink them this month, after I get a couple of other things off the stack.

Those are just so darn cute Tracy!   Haven't had the time to start on mine yet.  I really do want to buy some special fabrics for this one.   Too cute of a pattern not too.

Linda,  really looking forward to seeing yours too...

Oh hey! I forgot!
I did it -

A block roll, complete with pool noodle coolsmiley I didn't really follow a plan, just cut the width of fabric x about 3/4 yard, folded it over, sewed the edges, ironed under the open raw edge and topstitched a tube over the pool noodle, zig-zagged a length of felt on the fabric, then stitched some ribbon at the ends to tie it up.

It ended up about 25" long. Which is super... until you realize that this month's Gnomes Block is 26 1/2" long. doh
Meh, I'll get over it. lol!

Looks good Tracy. If you start accumulating these tubes you could put a square of white fabric on the outside that you could label with a Frixion pen, then heat and erase when you change out the project. Not that I think you would have multiple projects that would necessitate the accumulation of tubes. lol! bad girl lol!

TxM I like the frixion pen idea! I'm going to just keep adding blocks on to the same roll and if it gets to thick then I'll add another roll.

I finished mine last night.

Linda, so adorable.  Love it.   I have mine all wonder undered down and I'm taking it with me to Cleveland to work on while Jill is having her treatments started.  Not sure I'm happy with mine, but..... I may totally change it by making another one.

Holy cow, just coming up for air - I'm glad everyone's more on the ball than I was lmao

My purse went from gorgeous to gross in about 2 days. I've been in the Pinterest rabbit hole, looking for a new pattern.

On the 10th, I'll be joining a group of semi-local friends to do our Gnome blocks. There will be pictures!!
