At the guild meeting last week, a very productive and creative guild sister shared this block. The scrappy part of hers appeared to be made from 2x4" pieces, which just happens to be a size I had a lot of that didn't make it into my barn quilt. Hers had vertical sashing of CW repro. fabric. I did not have enough of my vertical stripe fabric, so I decided to do another 19th century sashing design element: squares on point. Everything in the quilt top will be scrap, except the blacks. The hardest part of this lap top quilt will be trimming out the 2x4 scraps.

Great use of scraps, and I do like the squares on point. I'm going to steal that idea.

I hope it puts a dent in some scraps for you Marynel. I do like that sashing.

Actually, I can see a slight reduction in my scraps, or maybe it's just wishful thinking. There is even a reduction in one of my scrap drawers. (Did I mention that I have a dresser of scraps, and then some? Actually, I know there is a scrap reduction because my 10 gal trash can is half full of the trimmings. ) I have all the lap quilt blocks made, the sashing cut out and half of the sashings made. This project is going much faster than I expected. I had measurement problems with the sashings at first, then I decided to begin with larger squares then cut them down. I hate pressing, but I found that I needed to use spray sizing and heavy pressing on the square plus triangle pieces before doing the PPing.

Have fun.

Isn't it fun to use up scraps... very nice...
