PostSubject: The All New 2009 Birthday Block Swap!   Mon Nov 24, 2008 8:32 pm

:yahoo:

Here it is! The all new Birthday Block Swap for 2009! I am going to be opening this swap up on Dec. 1 and closing it Dec 31. So far, I want opinions. Do you want to swap as this past year, with the recipient choosing a color scheme and block size and the givers to choose a block OR do you want the recipient to choose a theme (like Star Blocks, Basket Blocks, animals, SBS, crazy quilt or something like that) and the block size and the givers choosing their favorite colors to do the blocks in? It is a tough decision, I know. I will let everyone know that I would like to choose a theme. That way I can have a rainbow quilt. I need everyone to chime in! Thanks everyone and happy swapping!

Oh I want to close the poll on Dec 10 so we will have time to choose the options that are available, whether it is color and size or theme and size. I hope that is all right with everyone.

Okay I have a couple of questions never haven done this before... How many blocks am I comitting to make and if the recipent chooses the block what if I don't know how to make it maybe they will choose pp and that is something I cannot do... Could not the block size and type of block be pre-set so that all the blocks will look pretty together in a quilt and the recipent could choose the colours to suit their taste... Sorry if I have too many questions.. Embarassed

Actually Pookie, that is what we did last time. The birthday girl choose the colors and the size. Then the givers choose the block. This time, I am making it a choice. And taking a poll. The other option is that the birthday girl gets to choose the theme, like stars or Sunbonnet Sue or baskets, and the size, 10 in, 12 in, or 6 in or whatever size, and the givers get to choose which block and the colors. Since I have a set of lovely black, pink and white blocks from the 2008 swap I came up with the idea of having my friends, aka you ladies, choose your favorite colors. That way I could have a rainbow type quilt. Does that make sense? As to how many, that will depend on the number of swappers. If it gets to be a large group, I will break down the group into two. That way no one has to make more than about 16, which are made over the course of a year. So really you are just making 1-2 a month. We would start with Feb birthdays that would need to reach me by the end of January so I could get them to the girls who are born in Feb by the first week of Feb. And then March blocks due at the end of Feb, and so on. Of course, you would be allowed to make all of them and send them to me all at the same time. That is okay too. I know quite a few did that, so they were done in Jan and just had to wait, which is the hardest part IMHO, for their birthday month. I did not do that, I made them as the year went by, until Sept where I finished the year and sent the rest all at once to LEM who hosted this year's swap. It is lots of fun! I really enjoyed it and then seeing what everyone received as people posted their pics.

I hope I answered all of your questions. If not, bop me on the head and ask again! AND there are NEVER too many questions! Thumbup

OH YEA! I forgot, when someone chooses a theme, the block can be as simple as you need it to be. If someone chooses "Stars" for example, then you might be comfortable with a Friendship Star or Ribbon Star whereas someone else might enjoy the challenge of a La Moyne Star. See? That is why I said themes rather than a specific block. That way, even the newest of quilter's could choose a block that suits their skills, as long as they fit the theme. Even SBS can be done quite simply using raw-edge (fusible-backed fabric) applique and a very simplified design. (Just her hat, a dress, her shoe and her arm for example) I think that makes it so that everyone can join in the fun. What does everyone think?

Ok, you convinced me...I can do this over a course of next year! I'm in! My birthday is in May. I'll get back to you with the theme or whatever is decided when everything is decided. I voted, but it doesn't matter to me which way it goes...I will play along. Thumbup

QBee, I just noticed your signature line. Just think!! Quilting without any arthritis problems, bobbins that run out, lint to clean, or problems matching stuff, and with all your furchildren right at your side.
