I've never heard of quilt journals...well I think I may have but I think I thought they were just books to paste picutes of UFO and thoughts and such!
Its an interesting premis. I didn't understand " A 4 size" is that 4 inch? or do you do it like book size?

Kinda funny, I've been talking about Journal Quilts with Wanda over at Exuberant Color just this week.

I'd heard the name, but didn't really figure out what they were all about until she started talking about them. She posted a link to the Quiltart 2007 Journal Quilts page, which does some more 'splaining... http://www.quiltart.com/2007journals/index.html

Polly, I would love to see some samples.

FiberBabble, Thanks for the link...I enjoyed looking at the samples found there.

I still have a question. Is the journal a month series of the same technique or is it a series of techniques that one experiments with during the year?

As I understand it, it's a free-for-all. Some people do a theme, some do an art series, some are random. Hmmm... it would be interesting to do a journal using scraps from the previous month's piecing, wouldn't it???

Some do it when they find a new technique they want to try, but don't want to commit to a large quilt.

Charal,

FiberBabble is right.......it can be anything at all, any colour, any technique, any style. It all depends on what mood your in or it could be a new technique you want to try. I will email you some pictures of the quilt journals i saw at an English quilt show earlier this year.

FiberBabble, thank you for the quilt journal site, lots of ideas there. I also loved the blog, what that woman does with strips of fabric is amazing. Now there's another idea lol!

Polly x

PS FibberBabble (a bit off topic) but i have done my Oct 2008 senic block and its in my gallery. My PC wont let me upload pics in messages at the moment.

Polly what a wonderful idea! Who'd have thunk? I think it would be great for when trying new techniques because if you try something and don't like it it's a small enough project to not cost an arm and a leg.

I just got a book by Laura Wasilowski "Fuse and Tell" Journal Quilts.. I have just been able to look and read a bit in it... she tells how to go about doing a quilt journal. Her work is really cute... fun and easy... her web site is www.artfabrik.com she also dyes her own fabrics... Thumbup

Thanks for the site, Golo - there's some cool stuff there, though the thing that impressed me most is that there is apparently a Chicage School of FUSING? That right there should legitimize fusing for those who think it's cheating!

Seriously, you all should click on that link from the home page - it's verrrrry educational reading!

I do a similar thing. I started two albums. One is for quilts and I mark the pic when I sell it or give as a gift or if donate to charity and the dates. Other album is anything that isn't a quilt. Like looking back. jessie s

Boy! after seeing karol's quilt with the color crayon picks I think we should do that here in 2009.... wouldn't it be fun to all do the same pattern, but only with different colors..??????

I do something more like you, Golo, I keep a record of all of my quilts, both in photos and a written record on the computer. While I have messed up with a few and missed recording them, I have photos of most of my quilts and many of the individual blocks. I never have trouble finding enough quilts to make, so this is what works forme. If I made a quilt a week, I could live to be 100 and not do all the quilts I already want to do.

PS If I lived to be 200, still able to quilt, I probably would have a LONGER WAD list than I do today.

PostSubject: Quilt Journal 2009 Reminder   Tue 30 Dec - 10:16

It is almost January and I am about to start my year of Quilt Journals. I know some of you were interested in joining me which will be fun. I have made the first email a 'Sticky' as most of the details are in that post. I have also added some more photo's of some quilt journals that I saw recently at a quilt show here in England. Remember there are NO RULES with Quilt Journals only the date they are due to be finished by for example January's journal should be finished by the end of February. So if anyone is interested, just join in!

Here are some examples of what we'd like to see in the forthcoming year! (More can be found in my gallery)

Here's to a happy new year in fabric :D
