Polly,
In the pics I see five journal pages is that one month or is each one for a different month?
I was only going to do one page per month and a summary to go with it.
As usual I'm confused!!!!! Undesided

Linda, it is only one journal page per month. At the exhibition where I took the pictures, each person was asked to select 5 pages of their years journal to exhibit (due to lack of space I guess) and that is what you see in the picture. Hope that clears that up. Sorry to confuse you........i should have mentioned that.

Linda and Golo, so happy to have you on board :)

After checking with Polly, I moved most of the chatter out of the original Quilt Journal 2009 thread and merged it with this thread. The original thread that has a description and some links to sites with Quilt Journal has been made a sticky and locked so that it will be easier to find the information for those that want to join in with us on this. I will create an album for your pages too.

I have done my first journal block... while sitting at my sewing machine last night thinking another snowstorm is on its way for tonight and tomorrow I thought what could be better for my January journal than the feeling of frustration of having so many snowstorms and a pile of snow half way up my back door and when we get a bit of sunshine for sure snow is going to follow.......[img][/img] the size of my journal is 7" x 10"...... I still have to write up my info....

Just finish my January journal page. I have wanted to explore different machine applique techniques....the bias tape was definitely the most challenging for me. I wasn't always sure what was meant by mitered corners at the center of the heart......was I suppose to fold the fabric similar to how binding is mitered????? Or is the tape cut on an angle and a new strip cut to match angle the opposite direction......Anyone with experience here?????

I also had some difficulty making the tape.....I use the little clover device. I would get a piece about 5 inches made and then the one side would flair out. I was wondering if I was pulling the fabric more to one side than the other......I will continue to read and work on this technique...one of these days I will attempt a stain glass wall hanging.

Charal..your journal looks really nice. Your bias tape looks good to me! When mitering it..it means like you would for mitered binding at the corners. That would be easier than cutting a new piece and seaming it there. You would get extra bulk by seaming and you wouldn't want that in that area.
As to the bias tape getting irregular as you are making it..I have had the same problem from time to time. You have to be careful to pull it through very evenly and not stretch it as you go. Sometimes you can be pulling it just a bit off of straight and it goofs up...or it might not be cut on the true bias. It happens to us all I think from to time? At least you can iron it flat and run it through again if it gets too wonky.

Charal......you have done a fantastic job. And I agree with Ann your tape looks good. I spent most of Saturday with a Quilter called Dawn Cameron D ick who has two books on Invisible Machine quilting. I have the link posted to her website on another thread, if you would like me to send it too you just let me know. I also have her books so I could maybe look up any questions you may have.

Also I have the very same clover device and only used it the once but didnt get on with it either. I now make bias bindings a different way that works.

I am still working on my journal, hopefully it will be finished in a day or two. I keep being distracted by all these wonderful BOM's lol

Here is my January quilt journal. It still needs some tweaking, but time is not on my side at the moment!! It is meant to represent the journey I take to work each morning when its still dark and cold. Will take another picture when I have tidied it up.
