Golo, glad I put a smile on your face...your recipe looks pretty good!

Oh, boy, oh boy, I am so glad I decided to make the soup that I am submitting to QCC. Couldn't find the orginal one my DD gave me...somewhere on my computer desk...so I just printed off the one I have in the computer... I put it all together than realized I forgot :affraid: yes forgot :affraid: one main ingredient! So I read it and read it over and over, and it just wasn't in the recipe. Embarassed Fixed that right away!

I have not made a soup for years and years (except from a tin) this will be a challenge! But I do have a favourite and just hope I can find a recipie for it scratch Now off to the recipe books to study :)

I was looking over the Category & Food Groups list and decided that if we wanted to do this through the year I would have to post two food groups each month...so if no one has any objection I would also like to include with this month Spreads, dips and Sauces. And by all means if you want to add one, two or three recipes it's ok by me.

So for March it will be: Soups, Stews and Chowders also: Spreads, Dips and Sauces.

By doing two food groups we will have completed this by the end of the year. Sounds ok with all of you, I hope. I will also send out a little email for everyone, just in case they don't read this.

hug08 to all,

Okey dokey, Schnookie. I'd better get on it!

Now, about the Bean & Bacon soup recipe that I posted here? I made it last night. Seemed to be a bit of a bother, but I'm not sure why. Soaking beans, cooking bacon, and finely chopping carrots and celery probably had something to do with it. :) The recipe says to add a tablespoon of red wine vinegar at the end.

Now, the Bean & Bacon soup from a can that I remember was a little bit sweet... so the beans (really, too thick to be soup IMO) didn't have the taste that I was going for. Today when Mr. W. had some for lunch I added a tablespoon of brown sugar to the pot when I was heating it up. He said it was better (though he was okay with last night's version, too).

I haven't had the 'sweetened' version yet - though I'm wondering if IF I make it again whether I will still add the vinegar AND the sugar or just leave out the vinegar or...

I dunno. It wasn't a resounding success, but it wasn't bad, either. It's probably pretty good, just not what I was expecting.

I was just thinking it would be nice if everyone would add a nice little tip at the end of their recipe... not necessarily about the recipe...maybe just some nice tidbit to know when in the kitchen.. ???? like how to store something?? or clean something ??? etc...

I like that idea a lot Golo...are you thinking maybe a page of Tips and Hints that we collect throughout the year. That wouldn't be a problem to do...think it would be fun.

FiberBabble, I was so hoping that the Bean and Bacon soup would be like the one we eat when we were kids...but then nothing ever tastes like that anymore. That was my favorite of all time soups out of a can, when I was young...along with Beanie Weenies. Yummo being a kid was easy. I was the rootin tootin Bean kid! lmao

sauces could be fruit sauces like rasberry, strawberry... anything you would want to put over something whether it be dessert, veggies or main dish... wide variety of sauces out there... spreads could include cheese spreads, cream cheese spreads and jelly.... does that help, Gimpy...

I thought we could send in a soup and/or sauce recipe?? I sent in my soup one....don't use many sauces....if I have to put one together to get my name off the list, then I would have to get it out of a cookbook :witch1:

Oh, Mamu, I am sorry I missed highlighting your name...you were the first to send me a recipe for the month! I really need to take better care at looking at whom I have received recipes from; and mark it down right away! I hope you will forgive me. Embarassed

Yes, if you want (Optima words if you want) you can send in as many recipes you like...one, two, what ever. There is not a set amount! I do not want to appear to be pushy by any means...and truly apologize if I came across so.

Oh Schnookie you are worrying too much, dont, please, you are doing the most amazing job with this, how you put it all together and the lengths you have gone to, Im blown away, its fantastic. You should be patting yourself on the back instead Hug and feeling proud.

I think with regards to Mamus comment she doesnt have a sauce recipe that if people dont have a recipe to share for a category thats ok, no need to find one in a book, we are swapping our favourites. Guess I never thought aobut it but having two categories each month is smart Schnookie, otherwise someone might not join thinking "oh I dont have any recipe to suit that" whereas like this no one will miss out as there are two categories covered!

I am always afraid of internet posting, because I have been told you can hurt other peoples feeling easily, they cannot see your face to know if you are joking (mussing) or not and if you don't word things right you might be missed understood. I found out that if you use caps you are yelling... go figure.

I am so happy you are so good with the right wording... Thank you Gimpy :D

Schnookie dont get too uptight, none of us know all hte 'internet etiquette' and I think we mostly know each other enough now to know no one is nasty, cruel of mean so we wouldnt take anything that way, I guess thats why smilies are so popular to try and help convey the tone someone is using when posting? Hmmmm, how come mine have so many lmao in them then - does this mean Im not very serious most of the time??? :affraid: lmao
