PostSubject: Quilters Last Resort BOM   Thu May 21, 2009 4:40 am

Hello and welcome to the first of your BOM stitchery/appliqué designs. I was asked by a few people at different times to create something for the forum, then earlier this year Golo badgered me into actually doing it, LOL.

It was hard to decide what to do and eventually we decided that perhaps an aussie theme of some kind could be a good idea. From there I came up with the idea of creating them with a Tasmanian theme. I figured that after all, you all waited with us as the time came to move, you waited while we sailed across from the mainland on the ferry to our new island home and you have come with us on many of our adventures as we explore the island.

I hope you like them, I know they aren’t quite like the usual stuff you do but perhaps you will give one or two a go. I tried to create something unique and individual for our forum, something different. Golo has been a wonderful help to us, she has been busily embroidering a version of the blocks to give you inspiration, thank you so much Gloria. I am working on appliqué versions of them for a different idea. ( Note though that each month my appliqué block will only be fused and some embroidered or inked details added. I will be quilting mine when I put them together at the end.) I also decided at the very last minute to make a sample block that I embroidered & 'painted' using water colour pencils.

Each month I will post a link that will take you to the file so that you can download and print it for your use. I will also post a link to an information sheet I have written, giving a little info about whats going on each month here in Tasmania and about the block. Again, I hope you enjoy it, its just a little gift for you all from me oxoxoxoxo

Very nice design! And lots of examples. The explanation of the watercolor process intrigues me. Thanks for the info sheet too. Nice to see all those great pics!!

Norma I can email it to you each month if you like, save you trying to download on dial up. So you got the pattern but need the documents, is that right?. Oh blocks are 8" finished, I cut my background fabric 8 1/2" :D

Very nice Helen. I love the information page. Its good learning about other places. ( It also made me feel relief when I realized it was a possum and not a rather odd looking kangaroo Shocked lmao )

Thanks so much for all your effort. And thanks to you and Golo for the examples. so nice to see all the variations.

Hi Leejay, I used a piece of cotton that Hummerlou sent me for the box, its got those blue & greeny stripes running through it. I added some brown pigma pen lines to make it look more wooden if that makes sense, tried to give it more texture so it looked like a wooden apple crate

have you any basket weave kind of fabric or anything with logs/tree trunks on it? They would be good too. Wish I could look in your stash, bet we'd find something!

Any brick print or batiks? Hmmmm I know you have something! You could always use a shade of brown and then embroider or ink lines across it so it looks like its made of boards
