Tasmanian Tiger with the Central Plateau rising up in the distance, unfortunatly the tigers learned sheep were easy prey and hunted them. Thats why the govt put a bounty on their heads and they were hunted out

Lovely blocks Linda....going to be a great quilt!

Helen....you should give a zipper a try...you might be surprised at how easy it can be.
I've been installing zippers since i was 12. Sometimes there's just something about somethings that we get stuck on....for years I was afraid of the floppy disk!

Love your last block there.....so many interesting creatures live out by you. Had to look this one up. Yours is a great dipiction of a Tas Tiger....do any live near you?

LOL I like the tigers, I think they are fantastical looking, same as the tassie devils, such unusal creatures.

Chris there are a lot of debates about the tigers, the govt wont put them onto the extinct list, they are listed as endangered. There are plenty of reported sightings over the years but they often get pooh-hooed. There are two schools of thought, if you see one tell or if you see one keep it secret. In the SW wilderness and over further west than us there have been very credible sightings including one by a wildlife biologist. People think that if they were validated as being seen then some would try to hunt them, imagine the trophy value in such a rare animal. Also if they were validated then it would put a screeching halt to mining and logging operations in those areas and well, that wouldnt go down well with those companies. We believe they are still out there, we believe the govt knows it too, sure would love to see one. One day I might try a zipper, maybe Thud

Don't you think Gimpy that if the Tigers WERE out there HOW inbred would they be !!!! there would be such a small gene pool. But then isn't that the running joke with all Tasmanians having two heads etc LOL

Devils are the same HP as most island environments are with small gene pools, actually the small gene pool is what has allowed the devil facial tumour to spread, their DNA is pretty much the same and thats why the cancer can spread through bites which normally wouldnt be able to occur.

Now the two head thing, you have struck a cord there, do you know where that comes from? Its a most curious thing, tassie was the last state to add idione to bread, salt etc. Australia doesnt naturally have idoine occuring in the soil like other continents do which is why its added to our food. Lack of iodine causes various issues, two of them being

Goiters (the whole second head thing)
Cretinism which causes badly stunted physical and mental growth

Add to that the isolation of many communities down here in the early to late 1900's and you get the problem. Lack of iodine causing large goiters, people with goiters arent considered attractive by society so they would ummm lets say, date amongst themselves. Large swathes of community were effected and gene pooling prospects were reduced. Then you add the cretinism in and well, you have the whole tassie two headed inbred story.

Just a thought, remember 'back in the old days' as they say that most country towns mainland included had what was commonly referred to as the "village idiot" The villiage idiot was more often than not a case of cretinism caused by the abscence of idoine in the diet

More than you wanted to know? I just find it all fascinating, things like that, sorry to blather on LOL

Linda I have the sketch in the scanner as I type, problem is I cant seem to get the scanner to actually scan, it will copy and print but refusing to scan, be fiddling with it for two days now but I wont give up and its on my mind!!

Blather away Gimpy ! You would have had a fair bit of small gene pool issues in days past in any country area with travel not being common. People married within their own areas.

Gimpy does your printer have a USB port? If so you can copy it to a thumbdrive.
Hope you figure it out!

I was just looking at mine this morning, going to take it on the ferry to embroider. The distant hills of the central plateau are always a smokey blue colour and here is a picture of tasmanian tigers, whilst its a painting the colours are good, they were a tawny lion colour to a bit deeper like the painting

Helen, I wondered if an emergency had come up. I was searching all over and couldn't see any place you had mentioned anything though. LOL. Sure hope everything runs smoothly for you all and quickly too so you can settle down and all have some quiet days to sew and relax.

Thank you I trying to get the second pillow done then I'm thinking monofilament
thread and use a simple medium density pattern.

Linda that is nice and cheerful looking, isn't it funny how you can give those same blocks to different people and come up with so many different looks. That's pretty.
