- Thinking I would like to make a quilt from a square pattern... Check out http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PinkRibbonBlock.html
would make it 80" x 80" I would do 10" blocks for the ribbon but the sides would be 80", 60" and 40" long.... would that look right???? I'm not "getting" the 80, 60 & 40 numbers, golo. I misplaced my secret decoder ring, apparently!! BTW, are you making the block as the instructions say, with all of those HSTs and squares? Seems like a lot of cutting, sewing and seam matching could be avoided with a couple of well-placed 3/4 square triangle blocks and some flying geese... In fact, I can see mods to take this block from 45 pieces to 27!!! Oops. That's not what you asked. Sorry. Mebbe I'll just mind my own business!! _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress

| Tracie, I am not doing this with lots of block... I am making this block into an 80" x 80" quilt... so the sides would be 80"long, the next strip would be 60" long the next strip would be 40" long and I would do the ribbon in 10" sq...........It is only 1 big block.... am I making sense....??? | |

| Not much advice from me. But I do like the brown fabric with the diff colored dots on the second site. I think that will be good for men or women. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

OOOHHHH! I get it now! Like a big ol' square in square Amish Quilt thing... not a zillion 12" blocks, right? If I understand it correctly, then the block itself (the part with the pink in it) would be 80" square if you use 10" components in place of the 1½" (finished) units in the pattern. To follow the pattern's log cabin-ish outer part of the block, you'd add two 10x60" strips, one on each side, then 10x80" strips on the top and bottom. OR you could just add the strips to the top and bottom (10x60) to make a bed-shaped quilt of 60x80, then maybe add a coordinating narrower border all around? _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress

| Ahhhh FB speaks in tongues and riddles but scarily she makes sense I was having a hard time working out too, its 11am and I only just had a coffee so was using that as my excuse but I think you are right FB. Golo I think the dimensions and perspective would be fine, its retaining the design adn not elongating or distorting it in any way that I can see. Fabrics look pretty, tell you what, I just fell in love wiht that brown butterfly fabric, its beautiful, really is gorgeous. I like your fabric choices either way, to be honest I reckon if a guy buys it, he will be buying it most likely for a woman or in memory of one so I think your colours/fabrics are fine _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon
