| Ok, so I FINALLY got the Transformers quilt basted yesterday and need to work on quilting it. I had planned to just go diagonally both ways across it, but now I'm having second thoughts and wondering if just going in the ditch around it might be better. The only thing is, I think I would drive myself mad with all the starting and stopping involved with that and am trying to make this as painless as possible. Mom had said to go in the ditch and another friend made the same pattern and said she quilted it the same way. I'm planning to do this on the machine and will ONLY go straight. I've nevver mastered free motion and so will not even attempt anything that involved curves and the like on machine. If I went diagonally, I figure that would be around 80 times or so back and forth total, as I think the squares are 1" and would use those as a guide. The masking tape method works pretty well for marking it too. Here's the quilt again. I'm not sure I'd have time today to work on this even if I did make up my mind on how to do it. However, I need to have it done by about Dec. 23, so I need to get this decided ASAP. Thanks! | |

| Well, my first thought was meandering all over it...that's what I seem to be stuck doing most!!
BUT, given that it's rather geometric (not the right word...but 'squares and rectangles'), I would do diagonal lines both ways...then it would make little diamonds. It looks like those 3 large rectangles are single pieces of fabric...if you just stitched in the ditch...that would have a large area unquilted.
Just doing straight lines can go rather quickly. And for me...I mark the first ones, then use the machine or presser foot or the other lines are marking lines...and just sorta wing it.

| Outline the figures and stipple between them. As karol suggested, diagonal lines on the border.
The inner border....I don't have any ideas.
The squares could be stitch in the ditch with a line stitched from corner to corner.

| It is so active alreay, that I would go with something simple and relatively unobtrusive, such as a meader or gridwork of some kind. Generally, I like outlining, but I don't think it would help here. IMHO | |

| I think it's your quilt and what ever you decide to do will be just as wonderful as you. Since starting on these new drugs I'm finding that it just doesn't matter anymore. What really matters is what you like. They keep telling me, "Kay remember it's YOUR quilt, so do it like you want." Yes, I do know this is for your brother I think, but I do believe he is going to LOVE whatever you have taken the time to make for him with love. memaw4 |

| You can make your diagonal grid larger by going with every other square. That way you are quilting it 2" apart insted of one. Cuts your quilting in half and it will still be adequately quilted. It looks good by the way. Any Transformer fan would love it. _________________ TxMaryQuilts
