PostSubject: Internet and Anti-Virus Software   Internet and Anti-Virus Software EmptyWed Feb 09, 2011 9:10 am

It's time for us to renew or replace our Internet and anti-virus software. We've been using Kaspersky for a few years and have been pleased with it. DH is doing some research on it this morning and found something called WebRoot that is now ranked #1. Does anyone have any recommendations or warnings about any of the software out there?

Webroot is too controlling. It will not let other things like Malwarebytes and Spybot run.

Microsoft Security Essentials protects as good as any, is free, lets you run Malwarebytes and Spybot.

Spybot use the "Immunize" to keep your browser from going to bad sites

Malwarebytes just use the free version "on demand" and updated

My DS is a software designer and has me using ESET's Nod32.
It takes up less space than other antivirus and is supposed to be the best. You can get it at Micro Center.

At CNET

#1 Avast free
#4 NOD32

The only big con to NOD32 is that when it is uninstalled, it leaves files and registry setttings that are not needed. It has a glowing CNET review.

Anita's son is my brother, so I also have ESET Nod 32. When I switched computers last year, Bill said I could just buy it by downloading it from their site. I ended up saving myself a trip to Micro Center by doing it that way.

The site is http://www.eset.com/

Jill, we've been having so much trouble with our's lately that we ask a computer expert at church to take the "brain" and look at it. Well he did and installed the Microsoft Security Essentials for us. Didn't cost us a dime either from him or them! Computer works fantastic now. Only wish Timewarner would! They're coming out tomorrow to fix the problem. Went again all night w/o a phone! Didn't have one till after 11:00 today.

Memaw do you digital phone with Time-Warner? We had it for awhile but had nothing but trouble. TW finally recommended that we have it taken out because "digital just doesn't work in some places." We did and haven't had a problem since.

Try Avast its free, I use it, my son uses it, and I know corporations that use it.
updates by itself and you can register for a limited version. You can run scans and lets face it watch where you are going and you will be fine.

Jill, I'm not sure. I do know that we went with the bundle. We don't have a seperate phone bill if that's what you mean. They have fixed the problem whatever it was and we've had internet and phone service since. Time will tell though.

I have AT&T Uverse......we have the bundle....phone, internet, tv. We LOVE it! Have had Timewarner and then Comcast in the past.....customer service with AT and T is much better. Uverse isn't available everywhere, but if you can get it.....we are REALLY satified with it. Uverse is like cable, but it come into your home on your phone line.
