| QBee, I live in the southeast corner, near Winona. Small farm town named Lewiston. All of my DGC live near me, so I get lots of time with them. Quilting has been slow this year for some reason, but with winter coming it should pick up. | |

| Hi Jackie. It is so nice to meet new people. 10 GKs sound like fun. What age span do have? I don't have any GKs. My oldest doesn't want kids and my youngest is too young (28 and 17). So I have to wait a bit yet.
I got a lot of quilting done this summer. I live in the heart of Texas and it was so hot that I had to stay inside, so that was good for sewing. With the weather cooling off now, I have been trying to do a little yard work, not that I actually have a yard with the drought and all.
What kind of quilting do you do? Big ones, wallhangings, applique, piecing,.....? I like smaller projects, they get done faster and I try to stay with large lap sizes as my biggest projects. Doing queen and king sizes like some of these ladies is intimidating to me. Hope you have time to talk with us often. Love hearing from folks. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| Hey, Girls!! My name is Jessica..that's short for Jessica Lynn....some call me Jessilynn and some call me lynn...lynnie...jessie...but I digress... I was on this site years ago...and lost contact...but am back now and am happy! I have sewn, quilted, knitted, crocheted and crafted off and on for many years. Seems I am always happiest when making something. I seem to relax when I breathe in the musty smell of my feather weight. I have three children and two grandchildren. I live in western Kansas and am a teacher and coach by trade...(it pays for my real passion) I teach computers to 7th and 8th grade students and coach Tennis at our high school. Love my job. Very fortunate to have fun at work and love what I do. Don't get me wrong...I will be extremely happy to retire when the time comes! Looking forward to fun converstations, quilting tips in the coming posts!! | |

| Hi, I am a retired nurse and enjoying having more time for my quilting, genealogy and other needlework. I have been quilting for a number of years and sewing since 4-H at about age 12. I really enjoy traditional quilts and applique. I hand quilt special projects but machine quilt on my domestic machine to be able to complete more projects. I love genealogy too, but that has seemed to take a backseat to quilting.
I enjoy our local quilt guild and belong to a quilting bee and an applique bee.
I have 2 beauitul grandsons and am expecting a grandaughter on New Years Day, so right now am making a quilted name banner for her. My husband of 45 years and I travel to see the grandkids pretty often and they are our delight.
I make lots of baby quilts and blankets as gifts and some for pay. I sell some projects to friends of friends or family and some on etsy, but can hardly keep up with the things I just want to make for enjoyment.
I am new to this type of forum so I will mostly just hang around and read for awhile, I think. | |

| WELCOME Slumbersoft and thank you so very very much for taking the time to introduce yourself, that means so much to us all here. Its wonderful to meet you, sounds like you have a busy life and your grandkids keep you busy. New Years Day is a great time to welcome a new grandchild, what better way to start the year than with a new life bursting with promise and bringing such happiness with it. Do your grandchildren live very far from you?
Can I ask for some more info about the applique bee group you belong to? Do you get together and work on your own projects or help each other with everyones projects? Sounds interesting. Im a lone bee, no groups or sewing friends to meet with in person, my sewing group is here. If I didnt have everyone here to ask advice, show pictures, get thoughts and ideas from, well, I guess Id be the equivelent of a cave woman quilter!
I love traditiona quilt patterns too but give different things a go if in the mood. I havent been sewing as much as Id like this year but some is better than none I always tell myself. Im not a big embroiderer, can do but it doesnt give me the zing that quilting does. I used to cross stitch many years ago. It sounds like you are very busy in your retirement, wonderful to hear you are making and selling items through Etsy too. Feel free to share photos, we love photos around here, be it of the garden, quilts, food, family or pets!
Again, welcome to the forum and dont feel shy finding your way around, if there is any way at all we can help feel free to send a "pm" (private message) or just post your questions on the forum. Anyone and everyone will be glad to help you navigate around, it would be our pleasure _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Hi again, Thanks for the welcome.
My handle as you call it is the name of my Etsy shop, and was thought up by my son who is a writer and much better with words than I am.
As for our applique bee, we are all part of the quilting guild and we meet once a month. We work on our own projects but we certainly do comment and give advice and help if we can, on each other's work. The quilting bee meets weekly and we occasionally work on a joint project for the guild auction or for a community service donation. Both are great places to share ideas and show our work. I have learned so much since joining the bees after I retired, about 2 years ago.
Where do you post pictures, just in the gallery or where?
By the way, Gimpy Cat, I had an aunt from Australia, who married my uncle who was stationed there in WWII. She left there and never returned to see family at all, kinda sad but she was the sweetest lady. Her children have been there a couple of times and have become acquainted with some cousins there.
I can't wait to look around the site more but I'm busy right now getting that name banner finished for a baby shower tomorrow and then there is Thanksgiving next week. Happy Thanksgiving to those from the U.S.

| Hi Slumbersoft, One of my great aunts was a war bride too, married an american GI stationed in Melbourne at the time, moved to california and only ever returned once decades later for a few days. Your guild sounds great with all the encouragement and ideas. Oh photos, you can open an album in the gallery, just go to the gallery and at the bottom right corner you will see where it says "Your personal album" click on that it sets it up. Then fill it up! Or you can insert photos into your posts from photo holding sites like photobucket etc. Are you computer savvy? Here is one of a couple of tutorials on how to use the gallery that members posted, just click HEREYour son came up with a good forum/internet name, what kind of writer is he? I used to be a travel photojournalist and DH took a new hobby about a year ago writing books, he has 3 publishers interested in the first two he has submitted so thats a hopeful sign for him, fingers crossed. Enjoy your thanksgiving and good luck finishing the baby name banner, thats such a cool idea for a gift! We look forward to chatting more with you when life quietens down, dont worry, we will keep your spot warm while you are busy elsewhere! _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Hi again, Gimpy Cat, My son writes literary fiction and teaches college creative writing. He has published one novel set in Lavaca County, TX in the early 1900s, which was very well received. It is now in paperback. Now he has a book of short stories just published in Oct. Check him out on www.brucemachart.com His books and stories are somewhat dark at times and may be disturbing, but they have had good reviews and won some awards. Good luck to your son. What does he write? I got into reading some of the topics on books, my other great love. I like having those topics and not just totally quilting. By the way, I looked at your gallery and I love the cat pictures. I love cats but don't have one anymore. My last cat was a wonderful Russion Blue but he died about a year ago, and we probably won't have another. We enjoy traveling and it is easier not to have a pet to worry about. | |
