Title: Fat quarter trivia

From a true fat quarter of fabric you can cut:
99 - 2" squares
50 - 2.5" squares
42 - 3" squares
30 - 3.5" squares
20 - 4" squares
16 - 4.5" squares
12 - 5" squares
9 - 6" squares
6 - 6.5" squares
And, no, I don't have too much time on my hands...

Okay, the bottom half of this list I can easily picture, but there is no way I would ever have thought you could get 99 anything out of a fat quarter. They just don't seem that big.
Cool info. I love stuff like this. :santa_cool:

What fun info! I'm going to copy this down and add it to my notebook of helpful facts. It could come in real handy when figuring how many fat quarters I might need for a project. I usually err on the side of too much. :santa_smiley:

Golo, I do have a notebook...I use my word processing program and copy and paste info like that to a Word document that I have called "hint and tips". I try to put everything pertaining to similar stuff on one page but will start a new page if I need to to keep the stuff separate. Every so often, I can print out some of the pages to put in a 3 ring binder in my sewing for quick reference.

I am so unorganized, that I cannot ever find what I printed or where I stored it in my computer. BearFoot, you are a real nut about organization. I admire you. Maybe it is contageous. I saw that list somewhere last week when I was looking at links, and love the idea of all that power in one little ole FQ!

Very interesting! I love scrap quilts so I never figure too much out! It drives my 2 "math" buddies crazy. I do graph a pattern out on paper, but then I don't want to count every little thing. It keeps it real scrappy. They will tell me "I used 269 lights and 345 darks" or whatever. I say I used what looked ok! I do however organize my desktop. I have files in my documents for recipes, quilt stuff, Business files, and garden hints. There are more folders in each of these that narrow down the categories. I rarely print because it is easier to read on my screen! Easier to find them on the computer too!

Happy quilting missmommy,

Neat site, I was piggy about the charts too! My first class was on Trudie Hughes techniques and I still refer to the charts in her books.
I wish I could clean and organize my sewing room as quickly as I can my desktop!

Finisher, I agree with you! I like to have a physical notebook, because too many times somebody has come along and messed up my computer. Then I have to wait to retrieve information. I keep three gardening notebooks, and a couple of recipe notebooks, too, even though there is lots stored on the computer, and on the internet. One of these days, I will get my own little laptop, and keep it locked up. :santa_angry:

Well MerryBee..I've had computer problems from time to time so I hate to get too dependent on it. I also like a physical notebook. I take it to a chair when I'm planning something or I can lay it on my cutting table and refer to it when I want. :santa_wink:
I love my computer but...baby steps..baby steps! :santa_rolleyes:
