cat quilt Empty
PostSubject: cat quilt   cat quilt EmptySun Sep 04, 2011 12:59 am

This is not FOR the cat, its for the animal shelter, to raffle.

DH volunteered that I might give them a quilt to raffle. I thought I had one almost finished. I got home and found I HAD finished that one and given it away. Phooey. I went through the stash and found a FQ with cats on it, so I am making a cat quilt for them.

This county does not have a pound or SPCA. What we have is the shelter. The county provides the land and the utilities, as well as the animal control officer. All the other labor AND THE ANIMAL FOOD is volunteer and donations. With the current economy, (21% unemployment here, last I heard.) the shelter needs all the help it can get. Fortunately, one of the HS graduation requirements is community service. Some kids do theirs at the shelter.

Back to the quilt. I fussy cut around the 14 cats and sewed rows around them, somewhat like on the fun fish quilts, then pinned them to the batting/binding. Now I am filling in the spaces between. This is not a speedy quilt. I got the blocks done in a day and a half. I got about 6 of the sorta blocks surrounded. another 2 or 3 days and I'll be ready to add the borders. Somewhere, I want to add paw blocks, if I can find where I put them. Pix eventually.

Forget you finished a quilt and given it away. I could do that.

You need to change your name. It should be Speedy Quilter.

Not hard when you don't have kids at home or grands at hand of animal chores, a job or other distractions.
