- Hi lowjane, so wonderful you stopped by to say hello and we get to meet you
Welcome, hope you like it here and make yourself at home, we just love making new friends. I dont have a frame or a long arm but I can dream! 40+ years, wow, you are an expert! I think Ive only be at it for about 12yrs but I love it. Your travelling sounds like a lot of fun, must be quite a trip from Canada down to Florida each year. I live in Tasmania, its the island state of Australia, we sit below the mainland, last stop before Antarctica.
If you need any help finding your way around, dont be shy, we are all happy to help :-) I actually know where Tasmania is, believe it or not. I believe that my Dad spent part of his homeymoon there! I live just outside of Ottawa Ontario which is Canada's Capital. There is a large quilting community here as well as fibre arts, which I am also involved in. When I travel to the south for the winter the drive is about 27 hours door to door, it takes me 3 days to make the trip. Once I am set up I head for my favorite Joann's fabric shop. My hubby wonders how long it will take before I head off in his car to get my supplies to keep me quiet! Last year I did my arthritis a favor and purchased a handiquilter11 quilting frame that is a table top frame. I use my 20+ year old Kenmore that would be classed as a short arm. I found that the arrangement had a short learning curve and quickly I was able to create quilts without arthritic pain! Yippee I am sure that I will share lots of info and learn about new and upcoming techniques and equipment during my journey on the " Last Resort" Jane

| Sounds like you will fit in just fine with us here Jane, we love meeting new people, we love chattering and we love seeing pics of work, do you take photos of your work or trips? How cool your dad spent part of his honeymoon here, bet it hasnt changed much since then There are a couple of canadian gals pop in here when they can. Sounds like you have your winter all sorted out and complete a lot of work, your table top frame sounds great, sure would be great to have. May I ask how you found us out here in cyberspace? We formed up after a couple of other forums shut down a few years back, taken over by big corporations who didnt care about a bunch of ladies talking quilts, they did however see fit to steal our recipes and other ideas and use them in their publications. So thats how the name came about, it was our last resort attempt to keep together!! | Good morning and welcome to the sandbox. I am a relative newbie at QLR, and they have let me stay to play in their sandbox. Even after I explained how to have tomato and road apple fights.
I am a 60+ NE Ohio lady who had a hand injury 5 years ago. I have used piecing as therapy. No quilting for me, but I thank God everyday that I still have an opposible thumb. Didn't for a while. I have concentrated on therapy by constructing prayer quilts for my church but this winter (hopefully with lots of encouragement from QLR members) will start my first quilt top for a DGD.
Can I also add please post pics. Give us the chance to ooo and aahhhh.

| Hi Lowjane, welcome!! I have been on here a year in Nov. and really enjoy it, everyone is so nice and friendly. It's always nice to meet a new quilter. I can't wait to see your work and hear what you are working on. It is really nice to have someone to ask quilting questions of, also, and everyone is so helpful here. I think you will enjoy it. | |

That is what my hubby is afraid of>>> I have been snooping at the affordable Bailey , Hmm wonder if anyone has one? I draw all my own pantographs and whiz away This last gold quilt is virtually quilted on the 1/4 inch so it is taking me a long time, hopefully i can finish most of it this week and then the border when I get back from Banff in mid Sept

| Hi all, I have been searching for a fun quilting message board to join and my search for Sue Spargo's Earth and Twig BOM brought me here. I am an advanced beginner quilter. I come from a long line of master quilters. I started out my quilting experience by purchasing unfinished quilt blocks and tops off Ebay and finishing them. I called myself the "quilt rescuer". I then got enough courage to attempt some piecing and quilting of my own and that has developed into a new passion. I love applique and especially wool applique. I look forward to getting to know some of you and learning from you. cheryl | |

| Hello Cara....and welcome to the group....I too have an affinity for applique, have not tried wool yet, kind of afraid to start collecting wool too, my stash of cottons is out of control. Being a quilt rescuer is a noble art for sure! | |

| Thanks for the warm welcome. I do have a question. How do I access all the pictures. I can't find instructions so I can see your work. I also would like to know how to get my profile on. Can someone send me to the directions.
I just finished a wool applique Christmas Quilt. It is laying on my floor so I can admire it wherever I am. Two friends and I formed our own block of the month group and have been working on it since last January. Thousands of hand stitches!!! What an accomplishment!!

| caarab on the Welcome page above the welcome sign you will see a list of links. One of these is GALLERY . Click on that and it will take you to the gallery page. At the bottom of that page you will see USERS PERSONAL ALBUMS . Click on that and it will take you to all our albums . Also above that Welcome sign you will also see PROFILE . I can't quite remember what I did when I joined but perhaps that is the link for you . Also above the Welcome sign on the far left of these links you will see HOME . Click on that and on the right just under the Welcome sign you will see VIEW POSTS SINCE LAST VISIT . If you click on that each time you visit the group you will see all of the conversations & most of the new picture posting that are going on in all of the sections. Makes it soooo much easier to see what is going on here . |

| Welcome Caraab! I think you will like it here, it is a great group. I love to applique, too, but I like to do a lot of types of needlework as well as quilt.
I was just in Seattle last weekend on the way back from Alaska, but just from the ship to the airport. I have been to Seattle once before, but never to Spokane. I love the evergreen trees up there, so beautiful.

| Oh, yes, I forgot to post pictures. I did get them labeled and on Shutterfly, so I will try to get some posted on here. It really was a nice trip but I would like to go a little further if we ever get a chance. I would go a little earlier, it was really getting cold around the glaciers and not many eagles, someone said they may have gone south. Maybe earlier in the year we would see more. | |

| Hey, Caraab! I'm from Spokane too! Well at least I grew up there. I live in Phoenix now. Welcome to the forum. I'm going to be up there to be able to go to the quilt show on Oct. 19th. My parents have a lake cabin at Deer Lake that I need to close up for the winter.
