WARNING:

Just found this out yesterday when I took my Singer Quantum in to be serviced. You can NO longer get the parts to fix Singer machines! Singer sold out to another company. But they don't make the parts to fix the machines. Wal Mart and QVC are big sellers he told me.

So my advice if your looking to purchase a sewing machine, please don't buy a Singer.

Kay

Wow, that is just not right. They shouldn't have sold out if parts were not going to be available. Evil or Very Mad

I learned to sew on a Singer and then bought a new one that I used from 1979-2003 when I bought my Janome. While shopping around for the Janome I was told by different dealers that Singer wasn't what it was back in the day. I don't regret buying a Janome, but I have some great sewing memories from my Singers and I'm sad thinking of Singer being totally gone.

I have a singer featherweight that i adore. I bought a singer in oh i'd say 1980 and had nothing but trouble with the bobbin casing popping out, getting tangled etc.
It was a very inexpensive machine when I bought it and I struggled with it for the next 20+ years..but I was not sewing much during those years, just mending and home dec projects.

DH suggested that if you have a machine you really like, check Craigslist and EBay regularly and maybe you can buy a "parts machine" to use when necessary.

TxMary, great idea! My Quantum was the board. It's a computorized machine and the buttonholer no longer works. He checked and told me it would either be the board or clogged up. Of course it would be the one part you can NO LONGER buy. I'm sure it would of cost an arm and leg anyways!

In which case I would of gladly given my husbands!lol! Well, he is retired!

That's a shame Memaw. So do you have to buy another machine?

Oh no. Everything else works perfect except the automatic button holer. I have that Janome I bought last Fall that is of course a manual sooooo, I'll just have to practic again on how to do a buttonhole! Spoiled aren't I?

I haven't made a manual buttonhole for years! But yes, if I had the extra money, I'd go out tomorrow and buy a new machine just for that reason alone!
