| Hello All Another member recommended this site. (Thanks Kay) I am 61, live in NE Ohio, work full time and volunteer at the local fire department and my church. Have a great husband, 2 children and 2 grands. Sadly no long have pets but hope to as soon as one of us retires.
I was an avid home seamstress until I had an accident and damaged my dominant hand. Years of therapy and self therapy have given me most of the use of the hand back. There are things I will never do again, but there are still areas I hope to recover. Piecing quilt tops for prayer quilts for my church has helped me regain most of the feeling back into my thumb pad. I still have difficulty holding pieces as I sew and sometimes stretch a piece out of square.
I am relatively new to the quilting world and there is so very much to learn. I am looking forward to making new friends and learning much here.

| Hi! There are a few of us from NE Ohio here. I am on Cleveland's east side and my daughter Insufferable Bratt lives on the west side. Are you anywhere close to us? Marian in Ohio and her daughter Gwennie are also in NE Ohio although they are about an hour from me. We get together for lunch occasionally. I was born and raised in Canton. Glad you have joined our group here!

| Howdy from the Lone Star State. Nice to meet you. I really hope you enjoy visiting with us and join in a lot. Memaw is wrong about one thing, we are not a little nutty.....we're a LOT nutty. Wouldn't want you to be misinformed. Glad to hear your hand is doing better and I hope you continue to improve. As for stretching things out of square, I do it too and I don't have a bad hand, I am pretty sure it is my brain! _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| Hi, sew3w. So glad you introduced yourself, and I hope your hand continues to improve. I live in central Ohio, although alot of people refer to Lancaster as SE Ohio. Anyway, Kay is my best friend and we met on here. There are many great quilters in this group, so please feel free to ask for any help you need as you learn to quilt. I've been quilting now for 10 years and I continue to learn every day. | |

| Welcom Sewn3w! So glad you joined us.....we do have fun! Amazing...most of us have never met each other in person, but I feel like everyone on here is an old friend. Feel free to dive into discussions...show off your work.....give advice....complain.....whatever ! We all love to help each other out and you will ALWAYS find sympathy and advice! I"m glad your hand is better.....what a tough thing for you to go thru! Our church has a prayer quilt ministry.....I participate by taking home "kits" and stitching them up when I have time....it's a wonderful ministry! Looking forward to being better acquainted! I"m a little south of TexasMaryQuilts....I'm in the Houston metroplex. | |

Sew because, well, probably don't have to explain that. N3w or NEW because In Christ all things are made new. SoNEW, Sewnew, So many ways to make that play on words. I hope to figure out how to load my avatar maybe post some pics in the next few days.

| LOL DUH, I read it as a 3/three too! Welcome to the forum, glad you joined us and took Memaw/Kays invite to heart. You are so welcome and we will be looking forward to getting to know you, a new friend to play with, we promise to be nice but not necessarily behave - that would be a BIG ask Glad your hand improved so much, you said you are relatively new to quilting, how long have you been at it? Do you have favourite style quilts and colours? Im in Tasmania, the island state below mainland Australia _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Gimpy I usually find a template that appeals at the moment and then work out some sort of layout/design. I am not much for following others block designs. And that could be why it takes me longer to piece a top. Most of what I do is straight edge pieces. And I love pastels with a teeny dash of brilliant thrown in. Can't find my folder with the pics. Had unexpected company last night so couldn't download the WIP's that I took to post. But the weekend is ahead so. . . And just why don't you want to see another tomato? Inquiring minds want to know. | |

| Gimpy planted too many, the weather was good, we gardeners have a compulsion to use everything, buckets and buckets canned, did I cover everything? Maybe I better let her tell it. _________________ If you can't be a hero, be an inspiration.

But too many tomatoes after all the canning makes for great tomato fights!! You know you are in trouble when someone in the family says "don't go outside in your good clothes"!

| Its just that I am so jealous! We moved to south Georgia last year and NEMATODES killed all 39 plants. But we had wonderful squash, cucumbers, turnip greens and even corn. But I love tomatoes! Life is so unfair. _________________ If you can't be a hero, be an inspiration.

| Tomato fights?? Granny smith apple fights when I was a kid but not tomatoes, my parents didnt really vege garden guess thats why? You could have hours of tomato fight fun at my place, I had about 115 plants in this summer (as you know our seasons are opposite) and not only did they all make it through the summer with no killing frosts like the year before but they all went nuts and fruited heavily. Each time I went and picked I would get 4-6 buckets full and Ive been picking and picking and picking and picking. Even the chickens dont want to look at tomatoes anymore LOL Finally we got 3 mornings of frost (usually by this time of year its every day but we are having a mild warm fall) and the plants got toasted, I was thrilled. For the first time in my life, Id been fantasising about frosts settling and killing my tomatoes the thing is, I look out the windows at withered dead plants and all amongst them are tomatoes - defying all laws of nature and continuing to ripen - its not over yet I still have about 2 buckets full ripening on the racks in the hot house and I reckon there are at least 4 or more buckets to be picked off the dead plants! Im getting tired of tripping over endless buckets of tomatoes and thinking up new ways to save them all for future use. _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| are you gonna come do the laundry afterwards for me?? Im soooooooooooooo sick of laundry Will you come and fight too? I guess the big paste ones like amish oxheart etc would be ok they dont have much seed and wouldnt splatter but I dunno about being clocked by one of them, they are big and heavy! _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Oh my....tomato fights....I'm picturing this! HAHA!
But.....I look at the price of tomatoes and say....throw them my way and I'll catch them! Wish we had a good place to grow them...too much shade in our yard. I LOVE fresh tomatoes...especially the cherry ones!

| That's a good idea - we will all meet at Gimpy's house and have a tomato fight ... then she won't have to pick them, or prepare them for anything. The down side is that next year you may have tomato plants sprouting up all over the place. | |
