PostSubject: Coming by to say hi   Coming by to say hi EmptyWed May 02, 2012 6:18 pm

New to this site---thanks to Kay---I think she knows everyone. My quilting buddy Savannahanna also joined.

I love to quilt and read. I also enjoy beading but since I retired I have not done much of that as have been so busy trying to read all the amazing books I want to read and do all the quilts that I love. I also help my DH with his hobby which is gardening. He grows some amazing produce which keeps me busy in the summer putting it in the freezer or in jars.

I am a retired RN----do not ask me to answer medical questions----ugh! We have been married 43 and 1/2 years, have 3 beautiful daughters and 2 GS and 2 GD.

That is enough about me---looking forward to learning all about this site.

Mary

Very Happy

Nice to meet you Ladyslipper. You are right Kay must know absolutely everyone!
Sounds like you are a busy retireeee Yipeee. I love the canning and freezing also, only grow a garden so I have something to can and freeze. But admit I do like to play in the dirt and a garden gives me that excuse.
Hope you have some quilt pics to post.
I think you will love this forum, everyone here has been super nice to me, I am just past the newbie stage here myself.

Welcome Mary, so glad you joined us and stopped by to say hello, its lovely to meet you. I must admit I chuckled at your comment about not asking medical stuff LOL I worked as a veterinary nurse years ago and for years afterwards had people calling me wanting to ask pet questions and DH was an attorney in the past, he still gets calls from people wanting some legal advice, know just where you are coming from winking

Sounds like you are having a very busy retirement! Im in Australia so its mid fall here right now, almost finished with putting up the last of my summer garden crops, one more round of tomatoes to go Thud May I ask where you are situated with regards to growing climate? Where I live the climate is closest to the Cascadia area of the states, NW Washington/Oregon so cool summers often short and plenty of rain. I grow short season, fast cropping heirloom and rare fruit & veges. I havent done any beading in years, was taught how by a lovely lady, she was an auschwitz survivor. Also a big reader, just adore books and movies because they are stories too.

Glad you invited your friend Savannahanna to join us too, hope she stops by and says hello too, we'd love to meet her.

If you need any help finding your way around just give a yell, everyone is happy to help out with finding your way around the board, this is our home, make it yours too Very Happy

Hi Mary! Boy am I glad your finally here! Are ya havin' fun yet trying to find your way around? Just ask if you get lost. I've been on here for years and I still get lost! Coming by to say hi 472423 I love all the gals on here. We just have that sister relationship. I met my best friend on here about 3 yrs. ago. We've met and she just lives 1 1/2 hrs. away! We "try" to call each other every couple of weeks, but often things do get in our way!

I love to Paper Piece and absolutely love to applique! And as you know, I also sew for the Museum, myself, 2 DD's, and 4 Grandchildren. And if my husband is lucky, I sometimes will sew a shirt for him! Coming by to say hi 570833 But, he doesn't get lucky very often!lol! Because, I'd rather be working on a quilt! Nice to meet you and welcome to QLR. My name is Jill and I live in central Ohio and I'm the one Memaw met on here. That was a blessed day in my life. All the people on here are very friendly and helpful. How long have you been quilting and what is your favorite. Mine is patchwork; Memaw can stick with applique and paper piecing.

Welcome to our board......we love to have new members and see what you are working on or just listen to your advice or your troubles.....everyone here shares both advice and sympathy....quilty or life in general.

I live in a suburb of Houston TX, have three boys, one our of college and working and married, one graduating THIS WEEKEND from college and one that just finished his sophomore year. I love machine piecing and machine quilting. I can quilt by hand, but don't do it much anymore....too impatient....lol! I do love embroidering/quilted wall hangings tho!

Glad you are with us! chatting

Hello. So glad you joined us. I'm living in south Georgia and never know if we'll head back to north Georgia. Do look in our albums. I've recently started to indulge myself with old machines as well as quilting all day, every day. Now if I could just remember to post photos more often........

Gimpy Cat: I worked as a veterinary nurse years ago and for years afterwards had people calling me wanting to ask pet questions-----Middle daughter is a VET---people ask for free info all the time---but she is good about it. Im in Australia-----I enjoy the House Hunters International visits to Australia. May I ask where you are situated with regards to growing climate?----We are in Georgia and we are experiencing dry hot weather already. Last year summer was dry and made it difficult to grow things. We are expecting worse this summer. I havent done any beading in years, was taught how by a lovely lady, she was an auschwitz survivor.----This sounds lovely to me. Also a big reader, just adore books and movies because they are stories too. We have similar tastes, but even though I enjoy a good movie----I really enjoy savoring the story in a book a bit more.

golo: Favorite quilting style is hand piecing and quilting. I love most quilts but favorite type are scrappy and crazy quilts. I am doing one now for GD that will be partially hand pieced and some machine piecing on the larger blocks. I am just making it up as I go---seat of my pants thing.

redmadder: I also live in GA.

Memaw4:
Did not know you love paper piecing---I want to try one day.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. Nice place to visit!

Oh Ladyslipper2, the abuse I have to take from my quiltysisters! But I still love them.....Coming by to say hi 141980 well, I'm pretty sure I do! lol! Coming by to say hi 472423

Oh yes, I love to paper piece. You need to try it sometime. My best friend Jill, the one I met on here, finally tried it. I think she liked it......Very Happy Your blocks turn out "perfect" everytime! USUALLY! I say that because you just need to make sure you use the right size piece of fabric. But thats no biggy. Start out with something simple and see how well you like it. I think you'll be hooked. I sure was.

Welcome Savannahanna, love the name. Sew just what size is this quilt your hand quilting? I don't mind hand quilting small ones, but the twin - queen I send out to be LA quilted. Or I'll tie them. But usually I send them out. I love the look of LA quilt.

I'd love to see some of your work sometime and I know the others would too. We love to drool.......

50 yrs Henny? WOW! I just hope my hubby and I make it that long! We've been together 40 come Sept. Started dating in March 72'. I'm the one in my family who has been married the longest. And dad said it wouldn't last 6 months! Fool him huh! Coming by to say hi 472423

Hi Ladyslipper, nice to hear from you again Very Happy I didnt realise you were in Georgia, I know the weather there, I lived in Savannah for a year, summers were hot and humid like I used to get in the tropics in australia, I dont miss it at all, where I live now has cool summers and no humidity. Like you I prefer the depth of story in a book compared to a movie, do you use one of those ebook readers? I just cant imagine taking to them, I love holding books, turning the pages and the delicous musty scent of old books. Like your avatar Very Happy Hope you have found a new home here amongst us, again, if you need help finding anything just give a yell, we are happy to help each other

Welcome Sannahanna! Im so glad Ladyslipper shared our home with you, I hope you find it the kind of place where you enjoy spending time and making new friends. What kind of applique appeals to you? I like most designs/styles, I love needleturn, find it a soothing peaceful way to sew that gives me a lot of enjoyment. I love reading and gardening although my vege garden takes up most of my time. We have planted a dense woodland area at our place, just waiting for the trees to grow, some are taking off, I cant wait till they are about 6-10ft tall, will really start to see the fall colours then. I have a herb garden area too but currently its kind of under weed seige - I need to get to it, too wet out there right now, perhaps over the weekend. Do you do a lot of handquilting, work on big projects? Im just doing a small quilt at the moment, sit by the fire at night and work on it. I figure if I get a block a night done it will get there in no time, Ive done 3 but of course now Im thinking of quilting along seam lines and and and......................my ideas get too big for me lol!

Nice to meet you Sannahanna. I'm sure you'll love this group of quilters and I hope you will feel free to jump right into the conversations or start one yourself. I must say there is a wealth of talent and experience among the quilters on here and if you have any questions about quilting or anything else, just ask away. We'd love to hear about your quilting and any tips you have for us.

I live in central Ohio with DH and yellow lab named Haley. I am a retired librarian and I like to read, garden, and enjoy my GC along with quilting. I have identical twin sons who are 33. One is married with 3 children in SE Ohio and the other is in the Air Force in Fairbanks, Alaska. He's wayyyyy too far from home, but Uncle Sam makes those decisions now.

If you haven't done so, you can check out the gallery and add pictures of your quilts, furbabies, kids, etc.

Welcome again.

When you are ready to try PPing, please give yourself lots of time and a good pattern. PPing vcan be great fun, but it can also be very frustrating, especially at first, since everything is backwards from what we are used to.

I live in the mountains of NorthWest California. We generally are dry most of the year. Any garden requires some sort of irrigation. DH and I grew up in different parts of the San Francisco Bay area, which is more humid, because of ocean fogs. Just after we moved here in 2000, a neighbor informed me that I was now a quilter. She was right. Our whole community is somewhat quilt crazy. If I go to the store, someone is likely to ask me what my current projects are. The dry goos store in town carries a fairly large selection of quilting fabric. Another thing our comminity is noted for is BigFoot. Some of the best known "sightings" involved a member of our community in his Bigfoot costume, an open secret locally. Mountain people do love to make fools of flatlanders.

Our local family includes a dog who declines to tell us her ancestry and a large yellow tiger stripe cat, who claims royal ancestry.

No, I won't ask for medical advice. Many of us have medical issues, but what we ask of each other is caring, not free medical advice. Oddly enough people rarely ask advice on my specialty, special education.

I look forward to seeing your postings

Ladies, thank you for the warm welcome... I am not sure I introduced myself in the correct thread.. I seemed to have jumped in Ladyslipper's introduction thread..... sorry about that, Ladyslipper. [ It will take me a while to find my way around the site & know where I am and where I am going. :-) ]

Oh, the quilt I am currently hand quilting is a full size. I just finished a King size... it took me 5 months! I am still a little shy about my quilts, since I am only working on my 4th one now.... I am a newbie.

Have a great day, everyone!

Welcome Ladies Coming by to say hi 3988272130 Coming by to say hi 701649

I am 'Mamu' (Laura) and have been called 'BMW' (burley mountain woman) Coming by to say hi 472423

I live in Northwest Montana. Some might say I am a 'wildlife wrangler' since I often have stories to tell about the wildlife around here.

I have six horses, currently... Two draft crosses, one Haflinger, three Quarter horses. Our family owns a large cattle ranch in Eastern Montana bordering the Ft Peck Lake, where they raise cattle and Quarter horses. Sometimes they ask me to bring one of the year old or two year old colts home to do ground training on and that is fun for me, although quite a challenge. You could probably see some pictures of the horses in my gallery https://www.quilterslastresort.com/gallery/Personal-album-of-Mamu/Personal-album-of-Mamu-cat_u62.htm

I am married with two grown daughters and five grandkids. My husband works on the road most of the time so that leaves me here to hold the 'fort' down while he is gone...thus the many adventures I have Coming by to say hi 487653

I usually machine piece and dabble in long arm quilting. Although I do love to hand applique I just don't get the time to do it like I want. I love to see hand quilting and truely admire any that can do it ...tried it and did get a wall hanging done, however found out quickly it is not my 'thing'.

All of the ladies here are wonderful and I know you will find your visits here fun and full of life. Coming by to say hi 423727 Looking forward to future postings......
