now isnt that funny, first thing I noticed was her iron isnt easily accesible to the sewing machine when pieceing, I like my swivel chair and L shape set up the ironing board creates, would drive me nuts getting up and down when doing pieced blocks with lots of seams. Love the big windows, looks like she has used a recycled kitchen for her cabinets - isnt it lovely. Only other bug I wouldnt have carpet, pins get stuck in it, Id rather have wooden or linoleum floors, easy sweep and clean no pins to step on! Now arent I the picky one? LO
thanks for sharing!

That's fabulous! I'd never come out of there.

I love that she has a big enough design wall to have several quilts up at a time..and the light is wonderful. I would like the ironing center with a section lower so she could swivel around and press seams..but a section high like that for ironing backs and yardage. The only thing I'd really want different is..more fabric storage and doors or shades that pull down to protect the fabric from the light.

Gimpy I put my iron a little further from my sewing but I do chain piece alot.. this gives me a stretch and off my butt.. it is important to setup your work area so that you do get up once in a while or you will harden and be a fixture in the Niagara Falls wax museum..
Finisher.. I agree about the fabric storage.. I am wondering if those are doors that glide and the fabric is in the background.. I love the high ceilings but you are right we need protection from the sun.. but just think you need a little break go for a dip stretch out in the water.. and float on your back have the sky as your minds design.. The kitchenette is wonderful as well... I work in the basement and those hight ceilings are a dream.. I would love to teach a few classes in there and then have a wonderful summer salad and talk of what we did all day..
Dreaming.. any other helpful hints on a great Sewing room studio.. for storage or work space??

I think it is like a fairy tale about Cinderella and a fairy godmother.
I quilt in a small corner of the sun room because I don't like to go off in one of the four bedrooms by myself to sew. I had that and never went in there unless I had to finish something for a gift or for the church auction.
I have to get my machine, current fabric needs, iron, cutting area all into an area about 8'x8'. I just need to make a design wall some way, maybe a couple of clips on top of the bookcase that houses my books and fabric, and a piece of batting or fleece.
Her space is too wonderful to comtemplate. What a lovely room!

MerryBee the batting works just fine. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a large piece of heavy flat cotton batting off the roll and tacked it to the wall up close to the ceiling. Also had a -40% coupon. So it only cost a few $$$.
I think is was 90" wide.

I too. use batting.. the more you use it the better it gets.. I used 2 sided tape and stuck it to my doors... first cut to the size so that I can still open them and get to my every bursting stash..
I went today and got some wonderful batiks at 30 percent off.. I will have to use them I have no where else to store them.. and btw.. I know there will be some to offer storage for my.. your offer is kind but I think I will just make due.. :2funny:

What a lovely studio! Yup, I'd have a hard time staying out of there. It looks so organized and quite cheerful. The windows are really great. Imagine all that sunlight flooding in during the day. Most of us don't have the luxury of such a large space, but oh we can dream!

Oh, I do love that room. I would just need a bed in there and I would be all set!!! The iron at the other end of the room though for me. Makes me get up and walk around. I have kept a mini iron on a tv table for convenience on occasion. Not often though.
In real life my ironing board and table are in another room altogether. I've been upstairs for the last little while. Our basement just got too darn cold even with the electric fireplace going. Now, I'm really exercising. I'm getting a different table for next winter. Already have my orders in to my carpenter. I need to come up with a design now.

If you look at the pics carefully you will in the one that shows her I think sitting at the table sewing (or the one showing the sewing machine) that behind the sewing table the fabric closet doors are closed, they are sliding doors. She has stuff stuck all over one of them, notes or something. :-)

My concern is her library of books.. she really doesn't have allot over her desk.. I need books and reference material!! I myself cannot squeeze anymore in here..but then I say that everytime I go out and buy more fabric. Once I am on days it will get better.. the stores will close when I am out of work and I won't be able to go all the time.. whew..
I have an old heavy 4 drawer filing cabinet that used to be for bills and stuff. and it is stuffed with patterns.. I have to do just have to..I have so much I want to get done!! I hope this year will be the year to finish some of the beautiful things I started.. the ones that are priority are under my feet at the computer.. this way I see them every, everyday and every every minute.. is this a hint to get those UFO's from under my feet and get them done?? yes.. that is my UFO storage..
