Do any of you have or have ever owned a Brother sewing machine?

Did you like it?

Would you buy one again?

Pros?

Cons?

Thanks.......

Yes Memaw I did about 30ish oops maybe 40 years ago and loved it. Wish I had not used it as a trade. But I don't think that will help you make a decision with a new model. Hope you can find the info you are looking for.

I do know they for sure are made by the same manufacturer that makes Babylock. All the parts are interchangable, as well as the software.

Singer and Viking are made by a different (same)maufacturer I think that one makes Paff as well.

I had one years ago and hated it. But I don't think that is a valid opinion. I didn't know anything about sewing back then and all my problems could of been my fault. At this time it is hard to say. I remember buying it at Sears and the fact that Sears had a lousy service dept did not help my opinion of the machine.

I've found two I really like. They are a combo of a sewing AND embroidery machine.

1. LB 6800 on E-Bay....$467.00 free shipping.

2. SE 400 on E-Bay.... $380.00 free shipping.

I'm going now to the Brother site and compare. NOT even sure I'm going to buy. Still debating.........

Just so many pretty things to do with an embroidery machine.......brother! 141980 Oh.....the possibilities are endless. And Christmas is just 5 months away........

Good luck, part of me would sometimes like a new machine but then Id feel so guilty and like a betrayer to my faithful current one I dont know I could do it! Nice prices on the machines Memaw, for that money Id be thinking about a new one too

1. LB 6800 on E-Bay....$467.00 free shipping.

Joann's price..... $600.00! in stock! ------

Wal Mart's $390.00 in stock!

2. SE 400 on E-Bay.... $380.00 free shipping.

Joann's price.....$600.00! in stock! --------

Wal Mart's $400.00 in stock!

I did go and compare these two machines and found that the SE 400 had all but one (1) of the same features on it. And the one it didn't have wasn't anything to cry over. It had to do with the number of spools. The 6800 has 1, with the 400 it listed N/A. I have absolutely NO idea even what this means..No spools! I presume it means you embroidery with one color at a time rather than several. NO BIG DEAL BREAKER.

For sewing, it has 10 different buttonhole stitches! AUTOMATIC I might add. I need this feature for sewing for the Island and for me.
So I do believe I'm gonna buy this machine and sell my Janome I just bought last fall. I'll probably wait till closer to Christmas to buy it though and hopefully it will come on sale. But I will go ahead and sell the Janome now.

I regret the combo sewing/ embrodery.... I quilt so much I would not have the time to change everything and then embroider and that can take a lot of time on the machine when you are doing it... I would get seperate machine... I think each would get used more...

It is a good point that Golo makes. My sis has a combo and hates switching back and forth so she tends to not do some projects.

I'm still keeping my Singer Quatum. The only thing that doesn't work on it is the automatic button hole. The Brother combo has 10 button hole stitches. I like that feature plus the idea of the embroidery. So mostly I'll be using it for those two things. Button holes and embroidery.

Believe me, it will be worth every penny just to be able to make those AUTOMATIC button holes again!

Ah,I didn't realize you had another machine. Sounds like that will work out well then. Do a little research on how embroidery patterns can be added to the machine. I know there are different formats, some more versatile than others.

Yes, just gonna sell my Janome I bought last Fall. It's not computerized. It's in excellent condition though, so it should sell fairly quick. I paid $300.00 so what would be a good asking price?
