I tried it and I like it! I think I might have seen Eleanore Burns use this method (vague recollection). How do you make your nine patch?

You know Id forgotten that way of doing it, Ive done it once before and it works really well, once you have your head around the order of steps its flowing and easy. Thanks for sharing and reminding me!

I do much the same thing, sew two 3 yard strips, cut into three equal lengths, add dark strips to two sections, light to one section. Then cut across and sew into nine patches. Makes an entire quilt real fast.
