Title: Cleaning irons
Post by: charalquilts on July 21, 2008, 01:13:34 PM

Excuse
me if this a repeat question, How do you clean your iron? At one
point I got fusible web on it....I thought I got it all off but brown
spots remain. The iron seems to work, I haven't gotten anything soiled
when I iron but then again I haven't used seam. Any recommendations?

A cheap way is to heat up your iron and then iron used dryer sheet. It takes the guck off.

When
that happens to me, I turn the heat up on the iron without the steam
and then run the iron over a brown paper bag. I keep doing it until
all the gooey stuff is gone. Doesn't take long.

On
Diane Gaudynski's web site, she suggests taking a clean towel dipped in
white vinegar and wipe your iron plate when the iron is not hot. I
tried it and it works great.

Sister and I alternate between wax paper and brown paper bag, after the vinagar scrub. Never use an abrasive. Thud

Glad
you asked that question Charalquilts. It reminded me that I have gunk
on my iron that needs to be cleaned off too. Never tried vinegar, but
will give it a shot.
