| It is one of those days......... I am packing and sorting for my winter get away to FL, I have built kits to work on some projects, and of course JOANN"S is just up the road. SO what is my dilema you say?? Well after making several hundreds of quilts over the years I am looking for the ultimate. I have made stars, log cablins, every kind of strip quilt and now I am looking for something different and unique. Of course it is for me so if it is a bomb that is ok. I already know my colors, it is for a specific house that is in a tuscan flavor. SO I will be doing rich earthy tones, golds. ANY IDEAS??? I really want to push the envelope on this one, make it suring the winter and then bring it home to put on my frame to quilt
Thanks for any suggestions

| The minute you said Tuscan, my first thought was the Bella Bella quilts. To me they are the ultimate. I love them. I believe Calico Chris made one. The link takes you to my fav pattern but look around at the website, there are many gorgeous ones there. http://www.bellabellaquilts.com/venicerose.html _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| yes the Bella quilt is lovely... another challenge you might consider is a quilt designed by www.animasquilts.comI have made several of her patterns, well written and always a challenge...there are LOTS to choose from so grab a cup of coffee and take a look, might find something you really like. by the way the Montana Feathered Star....was the most challenging quilt I have done of hers to date.....the inside feathers were 1/2" finished size!!! | |

| Bella Bella would definitely be a challenge. Or that feathered star. Judy Neimeyer (sp?) has some spectacular patterns also. Try something different than you have done. Years ago someone gave me applique patterns for all the provincial flowers. Haven't done them yet, but they look like a challenge. IMHO, a major challenge should be something that is important to YOU. | |

| I want to make 6 tops this winter . I think that you have given me lots of options and sites I am not familiar with. Thank you so much!! It is hard because I have done so many patterns and looking to improve as I go. I also joined craftsy.com and purchased a online course and all the freebies they had. It was worth the $19 I spent on the course and now I have some direction for negative space when I just winged it on my own before. Now there is no excuse for being better right???
Thanks again for all your suggestions

| I don't see any Mariner's compasses in you album. If you haven't tried any of them, they are definitely challenging, although I would not try one without paper piecing. QuiltPro has 3 MC stand alone programs that are 24.95 each. | |

| Does it have to be pieced or can it be applique? I thought of hawiian quilts, lots of hand work if you wanted and they can be so rich and pretty, just a thought Hawiian Quilt Images _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| I am not sure but I think after all of these suggestion we have all come up with a longer list of quilts we may make NEXT!! HAHA IN response to the horror that I made a quilt for my daughters class mate and gave it away, there is a story,
My daughter decided at the last minute to combine her last 2 years of highschool into one. She announced it on her first day of school. schedules had to be changed and she was able to fit almost everything in and where she couldn't she just showed up for the exam ( think that was music) In doing so she ended up graduating with two young men who had the same idea. Daughter wanted to go off to college with a girlfriend who was older so that was the plan. Jennifer and the boys all were rewarded as Ontario Scholars. for all their hard work each of the three received a MOM"S quilt to go off to University with and they never forgot it. TO add to further torture and trying to surprise the daughter... When she graduated with a Masters in Env Sc and an undergrad Chemistry degree, I made a King sized Periodic table quilt for her. I embroidered each element with my embroidery machine onto 5 X 5 squares all in the approrpriate colors. Then stripped them with navy trim , It was a large undertaking but boy was I popular!

| I would love to see a pic of that periodic table quilt.....I've not made a quilt for my DD, had plans to make it several times and am just in a real rut. My DD will be finishing school in December and will have grad ceremony in May. She too is a scientist like your DD, the periodic table was a stroke of genius on your part...where did you find emb designs for it?
