| Hi all, Its been an exciting time for me this year with 2 daughter's getting married, now going to be a grandma in 7 months time... gee what happened to this year. Once things settled down my DH said go buy you machine now before anything else happens.. Well ladies I did and at the weekend it arrived and is sitting in my lounge room. I ended up purchasing a HQ anvanti 18. I can't wait to REALLY learn to play with it but have to wait to get is checked by the shop to make sure tensions and levels are correct. Please throw all your ideas my way as i will be self taught. cheers for now javascript:emoticonp(' ') | |

| Best advice-- Don't be afraid-practice practice practice. Don't use cheap thread--too much lint. Music helps keep you calm and when you really get in the zone it helps drown out distractions. *Take notes on what works and doesn't work. And write down what you are currently working on. Never know when life will get in the way and by the time you get back to your quilting you have forgotten. Mamu gave me a great tip about pre-wound bobbins. I use these: http://www.bobbincentral.com/magnaglide.htmlThey all but eliminated my tension problems. I also use the matching top thread. Above all have fun. Oh, and the quilts Helen throws at you--those will be great practice pieces. *Booze works too but only when you are ready to throw in the towel. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| CONGRATULATIONS I don't have a HQ, but I do have a long arm and am willing to help when I can. I too am pretty much self taught...trial and error learning...lots of it I do have some info on threads, needles, pantographs and such should you need it. | |
