Windows 7 Empty
PostSubject: Windows 7   Windows 7 EmptyMon Oct 15, 2012 3:48 pm

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I am going to ask some questions about Windows 7. There is 1 thing that really annoys me and I know my oldest DD is busy but I've had this thing since Spring and she hasn't had time to help me yet. Whatever.

I do not like the way my favorites folder works now. When I click favorites I get a drop down menu and have to hold my mouse on my name which opens another box and I have to slide the mouse over to "Quilting" which opens another box that I have to slide my mouse over to, etc.... If at anytime my mouse moves, I have to go back and line everything back up. On Windows 2000, I clicked, it opened and stayed open. Could move my mouse anywhere and nothing changed until I clicked on something. Sooooo much easier. Does anyone know if there is some way to do that on Windows 7?

I hope someone can make sense of what I am trying to say and knows if it can be changed. I am frustrated and really really dislike Windows 7 at the moment. big sigh

I don't know that I can help you, but I have Windows 7 and mine has only two steps. I click favorites, get the drop down list and click on "quilting" and that's it. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by having to line everything up again. Perhaps someone else can help with that.

TX, I think I'm the same age as your oldest, but I'm confused. Where exactly are you clicking to get the favorites folder? Is this in a web browser (if so, which one?), start menu, where? I can think of a few different areas you might be coming from, but can't tell which one it is. It might be a setting issue too. Can you be more specific?

This is so hard to explain but I will try again. First I open Internet Explorer. On my tool bar it says favorites. I click it and a list drops down. On single items ( local weather channel for example) I just click. Items that have multiple folders I can not click. For example my folder. When the curser touches my name a list of my folders drops down. Then I hover over a folder and it opens. Then I can click link. But until I get to the actual links I can't click on anything and so I cannot make a folder stay open so I can just look for the link I want without worrying about my curser moving.
I hope this explains it better.

I understand what you are saying.....there is a way to change the way that your clicker works.
Its on a page where you can change how your mouse operates click and drag I think.
I have no time to look now...have to get to Moms...she's having that spine shot this morning. They will be giving her general anesthesia so it will be a long day.
I'll see if I can find it tonight.

1. go to start menu and then choose Devices and Printers.
2. right click on mouse and choose pointer options....fool around with the speed and see if that helps. You might want to look at the activities tab in one of the tabs in the mouse properties.

Good luck

That's what I hate about drop down menus. I have those, but I also have a menu bar on which I can put my main favs. I have almost 20 of those. I don't recall if this is the W7 menu bar or one of the add on ones (google, bing, etc) anyway, that is what works for me. Actually, I think it is Bing, as that's my default search engine right now.

Well thanks CC but that didn't change it. I played with everything in that folder to do with the mouse. Maybe it can't be changed.

mmm, Windows 7 Pro, IE-9 when I click the word "Favorites" at the top, any listed folder I have pops open to the side and stays open. When I click the "favorites Star" the box opens, and all stays open until I click something.

Now, I have gone through (like I did on Win 2K and Win XP) and turned off all "slide, animation, and fade" items.

Wherever you can get to "Computer" right click it>Properties.
Then in the pop-up window, click the "Advanced" tab. Under "Performance" click "Settings".
Clear the boxes on "Animate Windows...", all "Fade...", and "Slide..."
Then click "OK" at the bottom.

See if that makes a difference.

Thank you Harris. I went and did all you suggested. Still not quite like my old one but sooo much better. Things aren't jumping all over the place like they were. I feel more in control, like I can breath while looking for a website. A definite improvement so will work with it a while and see if I like it.

Thanks again. Very Happy
