Just got this from my e-mail. Thought it might be of interest to those of you who have Webshots or knows some one who does.

Pictures on Webshots???
by Quilting Tizzy
I realize that most people have heard about the changes/demise of Webshots. Just in case you didn't know about it, that's what this post is about.
Webshots is being replaced by a service called "Smile". I don't know who's smiling about this whole thing except maybe the powers-that-be who think they're going to get rich from the new "paid" service. I wish them well but in the meantime I've had to download my photos from the site and find a new place to store things.
Any way.....if you have photo's stored on Webshots, you need to download them and find a new host unless you're interested in using the Smile service. Webshots is closing December 1st so you have a few weeks to do this but if you're anything like me, you wait until the last minute to get things done.
Big Surprise!!! I've actually already downloaded my photos!
If you want to keep your pictures on Smile, you have to do what is called "confirm" an account with them. They will give you a 30 day free trial. After that, you must pay a subscription fee. If you decide to stay with Smile, keep in mind that no one will be able to view your photo's UNLESS they are also Smile subscribers.
I tried to find out what the plans cost, but I can't do that without creating an account and I don't want one.
Here's the link for the page where you can start your download process. There should be an orange link to start the download process. Follow the instructions and then you'll wait for an e-mail telling you your files are ready.
This part is important! The link in the e-mail is NOT an active link so don't click on it. You'll just get frustrated. Go back to the Webshots page where you started the process and click that orange link again. That's where you'll find the files to download.
A little confusing, no? At least you can retrieve and save your pictures.
What to replace Webshots with? I have a Photo Bucket account that I may use but I don't find it to be user friendly. I've heard Google's Picasa is a good free site and because it's connected to Google, it may be more stable than some. Shutterfly is free also.
So now it's up to you to save your photo's from extinction. Until another time, I'll leave you with some pictures I took on our way home from a travel nurse assignment in Baltimore, MD in 2002. We stayed a few days outside Townsend, TN (near Cades Cove). These are some of the pictures I HAD stored
