Hello all! My name is Cindee and I am brand new to this site. I have been told by a member that a lot goes on here and everyone is very friendly. True or false? I quilt, garden, watch birds, love nature and animals. I have to cats, Sassy and Blondie. I have one husband, Fred and we have been married for 46 years (what was I thinking?). Having some difficulty getting around this site. Does it get easier or harder?

WooHoo welcome Cindee, from another Ohio resident. Does a lot go on here? True. Is everyone friendly? You bet!! Sounds like you have lots of interests common among us, including only one husband. Who needs more than that? lol!

Yes, navigating the site does get easier. But if you have trouble contact one of the moderators. Everyone here is really great to help out, guide and encourage. If you can't find something or don't know how to look back for something please ask.

And again, welcome! (P.S. got any pics to share of current projects?)

Yes, I do have some pictures to share. Only problem is that I am barely computer literate and the last time I tried to post pics it took me almost 2 hours. It was an act of frustration. Unfortunately I have no children living at home to help me. Both of my daughters live elsewhere so no help there. My DH has gone to his part time job and I am all alone. Thumbup And I can do whatever I want. So there! (Doing the dance of joy)

Oh my sewn,  I must of missed that one!    Shocked       lmao

I would love just one week alone! Just think of all the things I could get done!     I'd start with DEEP cleaning this house!    Finish up with sewing......  in between I'd make up and freeze more things for the winter.  Maybe do a bit of baking too.    Oh,  and enjoy the QUIETNESS.    nothing to add

Just pick a few threads and keep up with them, that's what I do, or check the new posts since last visit. We would love to hear what you like to do most, piece? quilt? applique? We would love to hear about your projects, pictures or not. Welcome!

Hi Cindee

Welcome to the forum, oh wow, someone stopped to say hello, woo hoo, what a great day! Its lovely to meet you and so glad Jill invited  you to join us. Ummm yes I think its fair to say a lot goes on here and a lot of laughter much of the time. We dont have rules about sticking to the topic, we are off topic more times than on and one of the members nick named it 'pig trails' because we can be talking about one thing and two posts later its a different topic. No one worries, we are all friends and well, in real life people wander from topic to topic, we do the same here.

I have the same likes as you with photography added! Kitties huh, well now, I know for sure there is plenty of room for more fur baby lovers around here. I have ended up with 4, lost my two 17yr old babies in the last 12mnths, went to get one more and hubby bought 2 and now there are 4! One is my daughters. I like  your names, my daughter has a hen named Sassy! Our kitties are Pepper (short for peppermint she is part maine coon, like a mini one she is 6 on Oct 31st) There is Alchemy, my all black boy and smoocher, he turns 2 on valentines day (he is my avatar currently) and the two new girlies Mojo a black and white snouter and her sister Juju who is white with grey tabby a fellow snouter. They earned that nick name due to walking around the house with noses in the air sniffing like piggies all the time, they are the Snouter Sisters hahaha  They turn one in late October.

hopefully it will get easier to find your way around, once settled in there is a typed line on the right above the main forum that says "View posts since last visit" you can click on that and see all the posts made since you visited last. Its easiest if you just right click on the last page of the topic you want to read and choose the option from the pop up box that says "open link in new tab' that way you dont lose the list of new posts and you read them all easily. I sent you a private message with my email address if you would like to send me your photos I can post them for you, happy to help.

One husband huh? I currently have one too but unlike Sewn I think Id like a whole passel of them. Id get ones with different skills, carpenter, electrician, chef, gardener etc etc, they could build their own ranch hand house and all live in it, go down to the pub together and hang out, keep out of my  hair but be mighty handy around the place hahaha hahaha   Ahhhh its nice when they go out and you can be all alone, Id be dancing for joy too, I think I have forgotten what its like to be all alone, I have hubby, one daughter and my mother living here, there is no alone for me...................

Have fun and dont be shy, just let us know what you are having problems with around the forum and someone will give you a hand, everyone is friendly and love to help.

I am a very novice quilter. I have only made two quilts so far and both were birthday presents for my daughters. I also like to embroider, cross stitch, crochet and I can barely knit if I look at the instructions. I hate cleaning house but I like to cook. Good thing I have a dishwasher or we would be eating off napkins by now. I love fabric and yarn. I will buy either without a plan just because I love the colors. My daughter, Celeste, says going in my sewing room is like going to Joann's. She frequently requests different craft things to make stuff.

Hi Cindee, nice to meet you. Personally, I'll stick to the one hubby since he is handy and can't sit still so is not in the house much. I got lucky, got mine all in one. lmao And 2 cats/ 1 hubby beats 2 hubbies/ 1 cat any day!

I babysit full time. His name is Logan, unless he is being really grumpy, then he is Walter (His grandpa named him after Jeff Dunham's grumpy old man puppet. He was grumpy a lot as an infant. We are such evil grandparents lol! ) His mother does not appreciate our sense of humor, her first one you know. But I pretty much told her to get over it and she slowly has. Logan will be 1 Oct 21 so I have my hands full. Many days I am convinced I am too old for this but my friends here understand and give me encouragement. So our support is not limited to just quilting.

Two quilts is a good start. We all started somewhere and would be more than happy to help any time you need it. Up at the top of the page (3rd line) over to the right you will see messages. You can send a private message to any member (pm's for short). Please feel free to use that to ask any questions you might have. I am one of the moderators and I am always happy to help.

I crochet too, just not as much as I used to. I used to do all kinds of crafts and it has taken me years to whittle down all the misc supplies so I would have room to binge on fabric. lmao Yep, I am a bad one. Will never live long enough to use all this but I love every piece of it! Very Happy

Hi Cindee, Welcome aboard. I understand about being a novice and feeling insecure about my efforts. I was there 14 years and 512 quilts ago. Of course a tolerant DH is important. Since I am currently battling Microsoft 8 and Picasa to get my latest quilt pix cropped and resized, I can empathize with those issues. Most of us have beloved animals in our lives. when you get your technical stuff worked out, we'll enjoy seeing your work. We all enjoy sharing our work and lives. Feel free to ask about anything that bothers you. Yes, the site gets easier to navigate.

Welcome, Cindee! Yes, lots goes on here. We have fun. We help each other. We have fun. We offer caring support. We have fun. I've chuckled at some of your posts and feel like you'll fit right in with some of us funny types. Very Happy

I've sewn more than two quilts, but I'm still quite a novice. Some friends dubbed me "The Pointless Quilter", as most of my projects are squares and rectangles. I'm afraid of those pointed pieces that are supposed to match up. I'm basically self-taught. If I'm stumped I come here for advice.

I have one adorable dog and one adorable hubby. Hubby is horrendously allergic to cats - as in he can't breathe and ends up in the E.R. Should I ever decide he's not so adorable, I will get a cat. If he comes home and finds a cat, I won't need to say a word. He'll know it's over between us. lol!

See you around the forum, Cindee!

At least you know Tom is safe around me, I sleep with 4 cats on the bed, he'd be a goner lmao lmao

Im self taught too, never been to a class in my life (Im not sure they'd let me in!) and I just work it out with help from everyone here with back up from books, magazines or the internet. Half the time I think I learn by osmosis, just pick up bits and pieces while reading the forum and then remember it later.

I do some piecing but needle turn applique is my love, I tend to find I can steal time to put a stitch in here and there, in the car, while a movie is on etc easier than I can find time to sit at the sewing machine. I find it soothing and peaceful too, sometimes piecing and I get cranky at each other lol!

Awwww, you guys are evil. Poor Tom! He would never survive at my house. A ray of sunshine dared to enter my kitchen window and shine on the lower half of the refrigerator. Noooooooo! There was enough kitty hair underneath to make a litter of kittens! Have I told everyone yet that I hate to clean house. I keep trying to get my kitties to sweep or dust or wash clothes and they look at me with one eye open and yawn. Okay, guys, keep in mind you do not have thumbs and who opens the cat food cans around here? How about a little respect? At least learn how to clean up the hair balls! tigger

As usual, I'm the only Stella here. Sounds like we have lots of the same interests. Birds, gardens, crochet, not wasting time cleaning house. Next to quilting, I love old sewing machines, not the oldest, from the invention of the oscillating bobbin. 1900 to 1960s.

My son lives in Youngstown till his project winds up. My grandson is in Cincinnati with his mom. I've actually met Jill, Memaw, and Sewn on a trip to see the family.

So glad to meet you.

PostSubject: Re: Welcome to The Quilter's Last Resort   Welcome to The Quilter's Last Resort - Page 37 EmptySun Sep 07, 2014 4:41 am

My cats are obsessed with housework, they get so excited until the vacume comes out, then they skedaddle but other cleaning, you cant strip or make a bed without cats attached to sheets, blankets etc. Folding laundry, well one likes to burrow into and under Mt Washmore, one likes to snatch things out of your hands when you try to pick it up and fold, another likes to leap onto the folded piles and topple them while the 4th likes to throw all the socks out of the drawer and onto the floor. Washing dishes is as bad, one is obsessed with the soap bubbles and you cant turn your back on the sink for a moment or she is into them, one likes to sniff the steam, maybe she is doing her pores (paws) or something, I dont know. If I cook a curry one refuses to quit and leave the kitchen but when the spices are frying she crawls under the old meat safe and peers out, eyes watering and sneezing but not giving up and leaving, I live in a mad house. At least the worst shedder drops her fur in big matted clumps so you can just pick it up.

Cleaning the bathroom, lordy fun, trying to fold and hang the dry towels usually has one furry weight if not two attached. Bathmats need to be skidded on across the floor, scrubbing the tub, handbasin or toilet all needs monitoring. pic below to illustrate my point I happened to take today. Flushing toilets are the most fascinating thing in the whole world

Welcome to The Quilter's Last Resort - Page 37 IMG_5106hexies_zps4baa598e

Didnt anyone tell you dust protects surfaces? You better not clean too much, you can also use quilt fabric to protect surfaces, it does a great job, you better go buy some more, just to be safe!

Hmmmmm. I can understand their point about the flushing of the toilet. It has to be closely watched in case it decides to overflow or maybe a fish will appear. Sassy likes to jump in the bathtub whenever I go to the bathroom. She has to protect it in case I decide to scrub it. She also likes to inspect the drain. I think she is having conversation with something that lives down there. Never mind that the faucet occasionally drips on her head. Doesn't bother her at all. She also tries to protect the bed when I try to put sheets on it. She is also the cat who jumps on the kitchen counter, opens the cupboard door and pulls out the cat treats. Why, oh why did I notice her when she followed me meowing in that restaurant parking lot? And here I thought she was saying "Take me home, I'm such a good kitty!"  I blame myself for not seeing the glint in her eyes. cat3

lmao lmao lmao There must be something special about parking lot kitties, FiberBabble has a total cutie called Moon Pie. I just got rid of my herd, they all want to play and are elephanting around the house meowing and chasing each other and anything of interest including pepper kitty who is often too snobby to join the fun. Lately I keep losing notes I write, commented to DH the other day about it, yesterday I was typing when up jumped Juju, snatched a note from the desk and ran away with it, guess at least I know Im not going batty now I just have to find where she is hiding/hoarding them!

Peaches likes to jump in my bathtub too!  Likes to go behind the shower curtain and wait for me to move said curtain so she can attack my hand!  It must of been something I started when we first got her.  She is scared to death of the toilet being flushed!  How stupid is that?     Oh!  I hate when she jumps on my kitchen counters.  She has learned to do it at night when we're in bed!   And she has now just started getting in my bottom cupboards at night!  NO treats there Cindee.   Just pots and pans, cookie sheets and things like that.   I'm off to Lowe's sometime this week for door magnets or something so she can't get the doors open!   I'll teach her to get into my cupboards........

Something else she does...... her litter box is in the basement on the laundry side.   When her litter pan needs changed OR  I tell her NO she'll find my white laundry basket and pee in it!   She's done this 2 times now since we've had her.     Why?   Anyone have a good answer?   I'm about to get my cross bow out!    Just joking..... But I certainly don't like her doing this.

Gimpy,  I never thought of that!   Wonder what the neighborhood would think?

"Kay has finally went nuts!"   "Well, Jim has finally kicked her out!"   "She said she'd never leave without her machines!"

lmao lmao lmao lmao lmao lmao

Pepper kitty will sometimes do the same to us with the laundry, she has got my basket Id just emptied out of the machine ready to hang up, we found there is usually another cat hanging around upsetting her when it happens but it pees me off!
